Re: Large Monster monsters

Do keep in mind that Large Monsters probably have not been given 4 times the number hit points just because they are large. One could certainly make the argument that having more 'meat' could equate to more hit points.

However, you should certainly play your game in whatever way that makes it enjoyable for you and your group. At the end of the day, all that matters is that you get to split some orc skulls!!! emoticon

I mean no disrespect, WarriorMonk, but you don't seem to want opinions that don't confirm your understanding of the rules. Honestly, a lot of these topics sometimes overthink the spirit of a 20 year old boardgame (an awesome one as it may be). You asked for opinions and then proceeded to basically say your opinion matters most because you've experienced live AOE weapons. But this is a game, and I have never seen any game system where a creature took more damage for being large. D&D, Descent, Pathfinder, etc all have similar wordings of " all creatures in X area take Y damage" for their respective AoEs. In the end, the point of the game is to have fun, so play it as it makes you happy, but don't come and tell everyone they're doing it wrong because you have more real life experience.

Re: Large Monster monsters

Dethhead, I never said anyone was "wrong".
I said I disagreed and that they did not conform to my real life experience, but that is all.
Go back and read the words that I left.
I never told Old Warrior, Edquest or RedDog they were wrong.
I simply disagreed.

As to games that have such a difference, a GW one come to mind first.
Warhammer 40K, or at least 2nd Ed. where I stopped and still play, a model takes greater damage if it is fully under the template of an area affect weapon than if just their base being touches by it.
I could go on with more games, but why?
I already said I disagreed and that I was going to educate the local gamers.

Actually the one that actually had the complaint was indeed one of the gamers we have here and not one of the service members, active or former, who game here.

Dethhead, in fact you are right; I came and asked for opinions.
I did not promise to agree with them or incorporate them as my new interpretation of the WHQ rules.
I did not understand that attitude was necessary to participate here.

Yes, I could have said nothing and carried on and left with a deceit of omission that I was going to do what was said.
I could have said thank you and lied by commission and said that I was going to go by what was said and then go and do what I have said I was going to do in my last posting.
No, instead I was honest, said that I was gping to follow my own ruling and gave evidence why.
Now Dethhead, you are condemning me for being honest.
I am sorry it took that turn.
I guess I need to be more judicious in my rules questions in the future.

Sorry all.

I will just add my last 2 cents here...

I want to say that I never took anything Warrior Monk posted as making anyone wrong. Opinions were shared, points and counterpoints were made, and that is it. There is nothing wrong with two people going back and forth; most people call that a discussion.

OK, thank you for playing...now back to splitting orc skulls...and...

...being a lumberjack...<walks away whistling>

I'll apologize. This is a forum for opinions and for some reason a read some post more aggressively I suppose. It's all just for fun, and I don't mean to stifle any opinions. All these discussion are what keep this community alive.

I can see where a foe might receive more of a blast for being bigger, but I think the toughness that comes from being a large creature, IMO, would negate any extra damage. Like shooting an elephant with a pistol or it stepping on an M80.

Off to play a metal show.... on a Monday night. (I must be getting old because all I want to do is go to bed, lol)

Re: Large Monster monsters

i prefer to keep rules and reality separate.

this is a game where the players enter a room, look around, and only then do 12 orcs screaming for their blood appear.

models in the area of a firebomb take 1D6 wounds with no modifiers.
no exception is noted.

it would certainly change the utility for firebombs though
level 2 dwarf "I'm saving my firebombs until level 6+ where the large monsters start appearing, they're more useful there"

also large monsters do not take additional squares in the game rules.
the model for a dragon and an ogre are the same size in terms of at least the base.

if firebombs deal 1D6 damage to every model in the blast actually means one model can take 4D6 damage then that is a very different event to what the rules say.

most of my posts may run into essay length. I find that for a lot of queries/feedback context is important and that is why this happens more often than not.

have a great day :D

[EDIT]
Actually, I have just completed shredding EVERY last one of your points using the WHQ rules and the common sense that Andy J even references in said rules to use.

What you said was outlandish & ignored the total of what Andy J et al wrote, but oh well.
I removed all of my response you asked for in order to keep this forum where folks want it.
It was plain not worth arguing with you to bring such contention onto the forum.

Enjoy your WHQ games edquest.
I have found resolution for the matter at hand and will have fun myself.

I think it is perfectly fine for everyone to disagree in this matter.

However, I want to say that after reading what Warrior Monk wrote in another forum -- probably essentially the same as what he wrote here (I read this more hurriedly) -- I think he makes a strong, logical, and reasonable case for allowing more damage to be done to a model that takes up more than one square in the area of effect. Yes, this may be taken as a conditional "I think I might have just changed my mind on the issue!" emoticon

By the way, I think everyone here should feel free to express your disagreements with one another (nicely of course! emoticon ). I do like to see that people have reasons behind their points of view, whether they agree with me or not.

I appreciate everyone's efforts to keep the atmosphere of this board friendly and inviting.

We play that a Firebomb does 1D6 Damage to each model it comes in contact with in the 4x4 area where it lands. Simple and easy.

And Little Monk, do you ever have a "model" that takes up more than one square in your games?
