Varghulf!

Hi everyone - apologies if this has been done before, but a search of the forum showed up no results.

Has anyone made house rules for the Varghulf model from the Vampire Counts range? I love the model and plan on adding it to my dungeon soon, but I could do with a bit of advice on battle level and special rules.

If it doesn't exist already, then I'll have a go myself - I seem to recall some guidelines for tranposing Warhammer rules to Warhammer Quest, but can't find them anywahere. Could someone point me in the right direction?

Cheers!

Welcome, psyberwyche.

Sorry to say that I do not have the answers for you. If you stick around though, I think others will be able to help, especially with the translation from the battle game to WHQ.

In the meantime, I will do a little looking around to see what I find.

Oh, and I most certainly do not remember seeing any rules for a Varghulf.

EDIT: I cannot seem to find anything on Varghulf in Warhammer Quest... in the places where I often look for these things.

Thanks for looking OldWarrior.

I'm working on a conversion, although I'm not sure how to account for its 'Bestial Fury' rule. It seems a little boring to just say it 'hates everyone', but I guess sometimes the simplest solutions are the best! :-)

Here are some custom Special Rules I created for Lord of the Rings monsters and/or NPCs for use in the WHQ game. Maybe they will give you some inspiration. I like to use WHQ rules/gameplay mechanics for LOTR games. emoticon

quote:

Furious Fighter

If this monster or NPC manages to kill one opponent in hand-to-hand combat and still has some Attacks left, he may use his other attacks on another target within reach. If that one is killed too, he may continue to the next target and so on, as long as he still has at least one unused Attack.

Furious Fighter basically treats a non-Large Monster like a Large Monster for how the Attacks are handled.

quote:

Furious Charge n+

With a fierce battle cry and a quickness belying their size, Uruk Hai often charge into battle and overwhelm their enemies' defences.

In the first Monster Phase in which this new group of monsters may act, roll 1D6 for the whole group. On n+, they each get +1 Attack in their first turn of the combat.

So far, I have (or plan to do so) added Furious Charge 5+, Furious Charge 4+, and Furious Charge 3+ to various Uruk Hai that I have created for the game (or will be creating -- can't remember where I am exactly at the moment. emoticon ).

But, back to the Varghulf... perhaps Bestial Fury could be related to how it acts when it has been wounded but not yet killed(?). Something like, "Once the Vargulf is wounded without yet being killed, it gains +1 Attack until the end of the combat".

Or, I also like the idea of giving one or two types of monsters the Berserk ability (like the Barbarian has). It could be Berserk n+...

Then again, if you just want to keep it simple, you could give it Frenzy n+...
