Power phase "1" outside of combat

Good day!

Don't know about you but sometimes our adventuring group rolls a lot of "1" during the power phase outside of combat. Do you guys have an alternative than automatic monsters everytime?

In case you were not aware, rolling a '1' during the power phase results in an Unexpected Event, but that Event could be group of Monsters or a Special Event.

In the basic game, there are 19 Event cards...12 are Monsters and 7 are Special Events. When a 1 is rolled, you simply pull a card and face whatever it says on the card. That means you face a monster about 2/3 of the time. If 2/3 is a little too much for you when you are learning the game, you could always adjust the ratio of the event deck a little more to your liking. For instance, pull out one random Monster card before shuffling the Event Deck together.

One of the great things about WHQ is how difficult it can get when the dice are against you. It adds excitement and tension when you know that a few bad rolls can make this very dangerous...so I suggest not adjusting the ratio by more than one card...and once you get a hang of things adjust it back.

Now, in the Advanced Game, the Event Cards are only drawn to determine if the Event is a Monster or Special Event. Instead of using the monster or event written on the card, you look at the Dungeon Event table or the Monster Table for the level...this adds a larger variety of events to the game.

I have had Warhammer Quest for a lot of years, so I have gone a bit further with it. What I did was to create an Event card for every Special Event that I could get my hands on (base game, expansions, good home brew, etc) and then when that '1' comes up on the power phase, I roll a-20 sided die. If the roll comes up on 1 to 8, draw a card from the Special Event deck. If it is 9 to 20, roll on the Monster table.

I currently have about 100 Special Events in my Event Deck.

i have a similar approach, only I use a D100 events table and the usual monster table for whatever level I am playing.
(I also have a D100 traps table and about 20% of my Events are in fact "roll on the traps table")

most of my posts may run into essay length. I find that for a lot of queries/feedback context is important and that is why this happens more often than not.

have a great day :D
