Any Warrior's Wounds

A new player just told me tonight that I have been playing WhQ all wrong for 21 years.
No one else present agreed, but his argument made such an impression that the thought has not gone away so I am bringing it up here now.
Maybe I am wrong; maybe he is; need to resolve this

Let us use the Barbarian as the example present.
This Warrior starts with D6+9W and proceeds 2D6+9, 3D6+9 all the way to Level 10 with 10D6+9.
The way we have been playing here, then in Maryland and back to here is that the Barbarian only increases by D6W each level; that what is on the table is the cumulative formula.
New player says the increase from Lvl 1 to Lvl 2 is not D6W, but 2D6+9W and the like up to Lvl 10's 10D6+9.

Which is correct?
Thank you for your help.

I've always rolled the additional D6, otherwise you can get into the odd situation where if, for example a Barbarian rolled well for level 6 and poorly for level 7, he could have less wounds than before, which just doesn't feel right.

I don't have the book in front of me, I'll have a quick read through when I get a chance and see if that clarifies things.

add 1D6 per level (for the barbarian example).
you would not roll the entire pool of dice each time, otherwise any time you gain a permanent extra wound (steam bath settlement event for example or witch's cave travelling hazard) you would lose it next time you levelled up, or have to keep track of all of these wounds.

plus run the risk of losing Wounds due to levelling up.

I must have done a poor job of explaining what the player meant.

Inh got it, but only after a second reading after posting the same sort of comment you did Edquest.

The player is saying that you get to add all of the "new" wounds to the wounds of what you already have.
In other words, when one levels up from Lvl1 to Lvl2, one does not get just another D6 Wounds, but one gets 2D6+9 additional Wounds.
And then 3D6+9, then 4D6+9 and so on.

Understand now?

Or is he right and I have been wrong?

If one would add the full number of wounds every level, one would end up with ridiculous amounts of wounds after a while.

Just say we roll average on the rolls. I'll go with 3 for ease of counting, meaning slightly below average.

You start with 12 wounds.
Lvl 2, 27 wounds.
Lvl 3, 45 wounds.
Lvl 4, 66 wounds.

We're talking 90 wounds on lvl 5, and thatäs with below average rolls. Constant 3's.
Imagine with some above average rolls?

I'd say this could make a fun experimental playthrough sometime, but it seems like it's far too many wounds.

My group has always gone with adding a single d6 when leveling up, keeping the value rolled on start and just adding to it with each level.

Think positive, it will soon get worse.

ah sorry...no.
no no no!
a barbarian could very well end up with more wounds than a blood thirster by level 10 otherwise!

also the advanced cards would show D6+9, 2D6+18, 3D6+27 otherwise I would have thought.

I can't check my books unfortunately (as my RPG book fell apart ages ago and I in a folder in plastic folders with only the relevant pages able to be flicked through)

but I think the advanced level table would show the barbarian as 10D6+90 if that was the intended result, but it shows as 10D6+9 instead.

Barbarian Advancement Table from the RolePlay Book looks like so:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8G_tgJm8jpFdldQeHlxdHctUXc

Just in case someone else's book falls apart, remember to simply punch holes with a three hole punch and place the book in a 3-ring binder or the like.
Done that to two RP books.
Luckily, I bought three extra RP books and the same number of books for LotOL and CoT straight from GW back in the day.

Yes, I am set for the books; I just always need an ever increasing number of treasure cards.
Two more core set treasure card decks are on their way to me.
Should have bought lots more treasure card decks and packs back in the '90s when I had access and money for such things.

Your friend is wrong. Take a look at the Training Section of the Roleplay book:

In general, training increases one or more of your Warrior's characteristics, thus changing his profile. Depending on which type of Warrior you have, his characteristics change in a certain, predetermined order. The Barbarian, for instance, gains 1D6 Wounds, +1 Toughness and Luck upon reaching Battle-level 2.

Gains 1D6 Wounds, not gains 2D6+9 Wounds.

I knew I had read it somewhere, but I could not remember exactly where.
Pg. 41, Benefits of Training, ¶1.

The elf from Monkey's Eyebrow came through with the necessary answer for all of us.
Thank you RK!

I do wonder RK what I said wrong that you would think this player is a friend?
The player is NOT.

Moreover, due to this person's, let us say, difficult nature, this individual may not be playing with us again.
This gamer claimed experience with WhQ; meanwhile their "play" indicated, clearly, otherwise.
Additionally, this being's mule-headed performance, in direct opposition to a number of WhQ veterans present, did not endear this soul to any of us.

This player was referred to our group, due to his alleged interest in WhQ, by a gamer that does not play the game.
We might look with askance to any other players he refers to us in the future due to this fiasco.

Thanks again RK.
