Custom Tactical Options
I've been tinkering again and have actually come up with something that adds some tactical options for warriors that I enjoy using and is fairly simple to add to your game.
Obviously this isn't for everyone (looking at you Warrior Monk, lol) but of course I enjoy any feedback.
The following tactical options may be chosen by any warrior at the beginning of their turn instead of the normal move and attack.
Aim: you may move and then delay your attacks until after the monster phase. When you attack, you may reroll 1 to hit or damage roll. The rerolled result must be kept. You may not Aim a Deathblow attack.
Defend: you may move and then delay your attacks until after the monster phase. During the monster phase, you may force one of your attackers to reroll a to hit or damage roll.
Delay: you may delay your turn until after the monster phase to move and attack.
Tactical repositioning: you may give up your attacks for the turn to swap places with a willing adjacent warrior. The warrior who swaps places with your warrior has their attacks delayed until after the monster phase.
I don't think this breaks or overpowers anything but I have enjoyed the decisions it creates. Do you allow the monsters to attack first so you can get a better shot? Do take the chance to defend yourself against the big baddy although you'll have to delay your own attacks?

Re: Custom Tactical Options
That's some really good stuff, Dethhead, it feels quite natural and doesn't over complicate things with multiple unnecessary dice rolls.
I think I'll give this a whirl in the next adventure (which in my case means the entire party will die in spectacular fashion in the first half of the dungeon, but such is life!)

Re: Custom Tactical Options
Thank you, sir.
I actually imagine I'd enjoy games in your group as I have fun when others are having fun.
When I play solo is when I like the tactical stuff added to the game.

Re: Custom Tactical Options
My way is the only way to play WHQ! (just kidding!)
I like how interesting your Tactical Options sound, Dethhead, even though they are not entirely my style. I would probably enjoy using them as a change of pace -- if I ever were to game with others who wished to use them.

Re: Custom Tactical Options
I can see the advantages in these options. at the very least if you end up fighting weak enemies with powerful ones stuck behind them (say goblins appear first, minotaurs appear next power phase)you can delay and risk goblin attacks in the hope of wiping them all out and taking down a minotaur or two in your next turn.
I would think the usage of this would fall off at higher levels (say 7+) but I think they are interested.
--- most of my posts may run into essay length. I find that for a lot of queries/feedback context is important and that is why this happens more often than not.
have a great day :D
