Rules compendium, snotlings & witch hunter faith

Hi All,

I had my first ever game last night and really enjoyed it. I was hoping you might be able to please help with the following:

1. I know there were additional rules published in WD - does anyone know of a PDF etc that houses them all?

2. Snotlings - the card states "for each snotling above one in contact with a warrior, add +1 to hit roll and increase their strength by +1: e.g. 4 snotlings make a single strength 4 attack with a +3 on the to hit roll". Can you help with:
Why is the snotlings attack based on strength and not weapon skill?
Why is it +3 to hit - where is that coming from?
So in the example above would the snotlings make 4 wounds (i take it a d6 isn't rolled)
When attacking snotlings, do you attack the group of snotlings or the each individual one

Do you have to use faith before you roll a dice or can you use it after (which hunter)

Many thanks for any help,

Rob.

Hi Rob,

Welcome, and glad you enjoyed you're first game!

The way I've always thought snotlings should be played is that they still roll to hit based on weapon skill, so for example they would require a 5+ to hit a WS 3 warrior or a 6 for a WS 4, but add to the dice roll, so to use your example of four snotlings, a snotling would now require a 2+ to hit a WS3 warrior (2+3=5+) or a 3+ to hit a WS4 warrior (3+3=6+). You would then work out damage in the usual way (D6 + Strength (in this case 1+3=4)- Toughness). The snotlings involved would only make one attack as a group per monsters phase, but are treated as individuals for the warriors attacks in the warriors phase.

For the Witch Hunter, faith is declared before the dice roll.

Hope this helps!

Insert's answer was fine. I just wanted to give some more background reasoning. emoticon

The Snotlings behave differently to most monsters in that they have a special Gang Up rule. They attack in unison. This is why four Snotlings are attacking a single Warrior with only ONE to hit roll and a combined Strength of 4.

The RolePlay Book shows the details of the Special Rules that monsters have. The original, basic game Monster Event Cards, normally just describe how the monsters act without telling the names of their Special Rules.

All monsters use their Weapon Skill versus the Warrior's Weapon Skill for determining whether their hand-to-hand Attack hits or not. Strength is used with Damage Dice to determine how much damage is done by the Attack that has hit (before Toughness and armour deductions).

I agree with all above.

the main issue with Gang Up monsters is when the nurglings appear because of plague and 2 attacks...or chaos hounds.

chaos hounds have strength 4 so if 5 of them jump a warrior they are dealing D6+20 damage at...level 3 (I think?)

which is somewhat excessive!

anyway the best way (I have found) of sorting out gang up monsters is to spread out a bit so that one person is not left too exposed and reduce the chance of a totally surrounded warrior.

my usual tactic is the set up as follows in a dungeon room
(0 is a space and W is a warrior)

00W0
W000
000W
0W00

in that position the most monsters you can get on 1 warrior is 5 and also all squares in the room are in hand to hand combat with at least one warrior, handy if a spell caster shows up.
also the centre squares are all in reach of at least 2 warriors for ganging up on a monster like a minotaur.

compared to the more usual formation I find
0000
0000
WW00
WW00
which leaves 7 squares out of combat of the warriors for archers/spell casters and the top right warrior can get 5 enemies on them still.

I find a spread distribution of damage helps the party survive longer personally, adapting to circumstances as the fight goes on obviously

Guys,

This is all awesome advice - many thanks for this!

Not sure if right place to ask but does anyone have any suggestions around acquiring the additional models e.g. Bret Knight or Dwarf Troll Slayer - There don't seem to be many on ebay at all.

Thanks,

Rob.

No, that isn't correct.

Strength 4 for the first hound. +1 for every hound thereafter. So Damage is 1D6+8 for 5 hounds (4+1+1+1+1).

You can have some luck with less specific searches; I got the brettonian knight and the wardancer for less than £5 each by finding them mixed in with batches of other models. Try searching 'warhammer dwarfs' for example, you can get some lucky finds.
