Re: The Warriors' Magical Weapons Question

Hmmm... I like the idea of levels of magic attached to the weapons. Of course, if such were implemented, it would mean more customization of the the existing treasure items.

Yes, like some other Warriors, the Noble does NOT have a magical weapon option it seems. Remember though, that his skill with the Rapier is better than many people realize.

The Pit Fighter has the same problem of no magic weapon, but he has his own particular skills and weapon bonuses.

~ ~ ~ The Imperial Noble's Rapier and Duellist Skill ~ ~ ~
(as I understand them)

I think the Imperial Noble's rules are not very clear on the issue of treasure swords that he could obtain. Yet, I do believe that he can use them based upon this quote:

quote:

An Imperial Noble may only use items of treasure that the Barbarian can use.

Nowhere do I see his use of treasure swords as strictly prohibited. However, he could not use his Duelling skill with them.

Some might argue that the Sabre skill proves that he cannot use normal swords, but this skill (only while using the Sabre) makes him harder to hit (-1 to be hit) in addition to working as a normal sword (with his Strength and normal death-blow rule would apply).

Many see the Duellist skill as a negative because of the Strength of 1, but it potentially gives the Noble many more hits against the monsters if he continues to hit repeatedly. The Duellist skill is actually better than a normal death-blow as I see it, but it can only be used with his Rapier, which tends to counter-balances the multiple hits.

By the way, for those who go with the strictest death-blow interpretation (monster must be on full Wounds immediate before the blow that kills it), the Duellist skill allows the Noble to continue attacking regardless of the number of wounds inflicted upon the monster or upon the monster just killed.

EDIT (November 2011): I am currently playing in a game where I have an Imperial Noble who has the Death Lunge skill. This allows him to use his own Strength instead of the Rapier's Str 1. So, the Imperial Noble then becomes much better than the average Warrior in melee combat.

Re: The Warriors' Magical Weapons Question - Noble Part of thread

Hey OldWarrior,

Can you please point me to the part in the Nobles rules around -1 to hit.

Also, had a game with him today and must say I found it really annoying as I was hitting monsters but when it comes to monsters with reasonable toughness e.g. orcs I just wasn’t getting any wounds. Was thinking of swapping his rapier out for a normal weapon until higher levels.

Thanks,

Rob.

It's on his Sword Skill Table.

I had a far bit of success with a Nobble with Ogre Slayer at BL 1. Really you need death lunge.

My Friend has a BL10 Noble without death lunge, we often spend 10 minutes with him making to hit rolls, counting how many 6's he gets (to trigger his rune) and then discarding all other hits as they can't do any damage.

Re: The Warriors' Magical Weapons Question

I think the best way to think of it is to
treat "magic" and "magical" as 2 separate
things. They (GW) should have called them
"enchanted" weapons, not "magical" but
that is GW for you! Why say things clearly
when you can say them confusedly!
To me, weapons can be created to affect
Daemonic & Ethereal Monsters. I think that is
the original intent of the rules. Don't
forget there are Runes you can add to weapons
so you will always have that "magical"
quality when you need it.
