Norsca Hairy Beasties
Hello everyone
Im about to create a Monster Table for Nosrca, for level 1 to start with, and then hopefully move on up the battle level tables.
I was wondering, what sort of Monsters would be wandering around Norsca?
I'm sure Savage Orcs wouldnt be, nor Forest Goblins. What about Skaven? Chaos is everywhere I guess.
Any assist would be greatly appriciated.

Re: Norsca Hairy Beasties
Have you read the latest Warhammer Chaos Armies book? They lump Norsca into the Northern Chaos Wastes!
Even if you don't go along with this viewpoint I'd expect you'd find many Chaos Marauders and Warriors wandering around Norsca.
Don't forget Yeti and the Polar Warbear for higher levels

Re: Norsca Hairy Beasties
I forget what Deathblow mag has the Kislevite Shaman, but it also includes stats for some cold-dwelling beasties, such as yeti, bears, and Snow Trolls. Norsca would also have different size Ice Elementals and Chaos Trolls. I would make it a modified Chaos list; but I would also look at one of the Norsca Army lists online and include groups of humans/barbarians who may or may not become hostile, such as Wulfen, Berzerkers, Vikings, and Marauders. You could refer to the Ulfwiener (Wolf-sausage??!?) class from Techpriest's site and pull some of the stats off for the different levels and levels of transformation. Even if the name isn't quite right the rules are pretty cool.

Re: Norsca Hairy Beasties
Oops, I almost forgot! Norsca is much closer to the portal that Chaos and Dark Magic pours out than the Empire so there should be lots of mutants (even if they're not evil!) at low levels and power-mad sorcerers at high levels!
Also in Norsca are bastions of Dwarves trying to hold out against chaos. These dwarves are even tougher than Old World dwarves and could provide interesting quests and encounters, possibly providing aid to a party over it's head.

Re: Norsca Hairy Beasties
Thanks heaps guys!
Ive decided to get rid of skaven from Norsca all together, I get the feeling it would be too cold for them up there.
At level 1, the only chaos creatures weak enough for the warriors to fight are chaos rats and chaos spawn, so Ive puts a sizeable amount of them on the table. Later on, there will be lots of Chaos Warriors and definitely lots of Chaos Maureders.
Not to mentin yeti, polar bears, and at higher levels, I will chuck in Ice Elementals with the 'guard' ability for chaos sorcerers.
Also, since Naggaroth is just a bit of to the left (well, a lot off to the left), Im sure there will be a few dark elf war bands running amok.
And naturally the ever present forces of undeath will be in adundance.
Then there is all those crazyly named norse dudes from the Norse monster list, such as Ulfwierner, and Ulfjarl and Eirnjar. I'll have more than enough lads to populate a Monster table with. Oooh, lets not forget valkeryies and vikings!
thanks for your help!

Re: Norsca Hairy Beasties
One more for your higher level charts: Frost giants!!! Reaper minis makes great Frost Giants for $14.95 US dollars, the same price as a single Games Workshop hero wielding two warhammers, dammit!
Also I plan on incorporating Winter Wolves that breathe Cones of Cold (like in Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance)if I can ever get my parties to leave the safety of the Old World.
Whenever an existing chart shows 'Giant' you could replace that with 'Frost Giant' and any 'Dragon' result could show 'Ice Dragon' with conversions from when Warhammer Battle dragons could breathe cold.

Re: Norsca Hairy Beasties
Fimir was allied of Norse (cf. WD UK 107 p42)
Norsca is the country of lot of creatures like giant wolves, ice dragons, bears, eagles...
To my opinion Ice Troll is the same thing of Yeti (of Ogre Kingdom.

Re: Norsca Hairy Beasties
I assume you're already using the Norse Bestiary (by Andrew Brockhouse) as published on the CotOWaB website?
