My 7 "E" events are numbered 1-7 for a level one table. 2) There should always be a chance of Cave-in, and hence need for the pick axe. 2a) An 'E' event doesn't occur if monsters are on the board (except if you've gone downstairs). Instead more monsters arrive at a power roll of 1. 2b) A Cave-in could be a false alarm. At the time it would normally kill, roll a D6. If the number is less than or equal to the Dungeon Level, then it is real. If not, then all figures on the section take an amount of damage from falling debris based on the Dungeon Level. 3) There should always be a chance of Pit Trap, and hence need for the rope. From the rules in the books, you can see that there are different kinds of pits, doing different damage. Examples follow which can be used for successive dungeon levels. 3a) A chance that the trap will be a pit, and not gold or explosion. 3b) The certainty that it is a pit, perhaps spiked. 3c) The pit may drop you in the Fighting Pit objective room, with a bunch of monsters. 3d) The pit may be the Pit of Despair, which will kill if you fall in, or fail to make the initiative roll. 4) Have an event for a barrier, and an event for it's removal. Such as Locked Door and Key..., or Portcullis and Key..., or magical barrier and "open" counter-scroll. This also encourages the need for lockpicks or the open door spell. Note that in a D66 or D100 table, it is almost impossible to get both of the pair in the single adventure. 5) Some events should only occur once per character, such as Nurgle's Rot, or once per party, such as Time Chamber. Once found, write on the character sheet that they are "immune." 6) Different types of tables for different events encourage variety, balance and specific events. You could also have one event to roll on the lower-level table, and one to roll on the higher-level table. 6a) My level one has 7 Events, to replace the "E" cards with blanks. I seldom go through all 19 Event cards. 6b) My level two has 6 Events in one columns and 3 Events in the second. If you roll a repeat on a D6, you roll a D3 for the second, tougher column. 6c) My level three is the same, except the second column has 6 entries. 6d) My higher level tables are of the D3xD6 variety. You roll a D3 to choose a column: Trap, Encounter, or Fate. Then you roll D6 to see which entry it is. Fate includes Locked Door, Cave-in, Treasure, etc. Encounter includes both the living, the dying and ghosts of the dungeon. 7) If you have to encounter a specific monster character in the dungeon for the adventure, don't put it on the Event or Monster tables. You may never go through half of the 36 entries in a D66 table. Instead put in a special 'E' or 'M' card that signals it is that character instead of a random event or random monster. Enemy characters are discussed more in the official expansions. 8) Just so you understand, higher dungeon levels require tougher traps (Scorpions aren't very bad once you have 20+ Wounds), and better rewards (e.g. Imperial Knight).nondisclosed_email@example.com (sudas)Fri, 01 Aug 2003 05:01:04 +0000 Re: Better Event and Treasure cards?https://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p554080,from=rss#post554080https://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p554080,from=rss#post554080Excellent!! You've totally come through really fast for me, and therefore you officially rule! =) I sort of use a mix of cards and tables but have been hankering for more variety, so this will be great... sadly, A4 paper is hard to find here in on this side of the pond, I think resizing things to 8.5 x 11" is maybe what screwed me up before; your templates are exactly what I was looking for... It's helpful that they're in Word as well because I only have access to photoshop on one of my computers here at work... Thanks much!!nondisclosed_email@example.com (BassJam)Thu, 31 Jul 2003 03:34:16 +0000 Re: Better Event and Treasure cards?https://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p554079,from=rss#post554079https://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p554079,from=rss#post554079I've made up a Word document with templates for Dungeon Cards, Treasure Cards and Dark Secrets. We don't use Event Cards so I haven't got a template for them (well, we use them but only to determine if it's a Monster or Event, then we refer to the tables). But if you give me a couple of days I can come up with something. [Update: Event Card template is finished, click on the link below to download all templates] The reason the templates are in Word format is that was the only program I had when I initially made them. Since then I use Photoshop for graphics editing etc, but the templates have stayed in Word. You'll probably have to do a bit of rearranging or formatting adjustment depending on your printer (you said that the word templates were too small in a previous post) but hopefully this is what you're after. http://www.wqchronicles.com/cardtemplates.zip (400KB) You'll also have to download these fonts to get the correct appearance and layout. http://www.wqchronicles.com/wqfonts.zip (366KB) For the backs of the cards, what I normally do is take 9 cards (they fit nicely on A4 paper) to the local print shop and get them to take a couple of good quality colour photocopies, making sure the copies are the exact size as the original cards.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Andrew)Wed, 30 Jul 2003 21:27:12 +0000 Re: Better Event and Treasure cards?https://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p554078,from=rss#post554078https://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p554078,from=rss#post554078yeah, I'm basically looking for a good way to make my own Event and Treasure cards because I use those as well as the new tables... I can already make my own dungeon cards but thanks anyways I think I could make my own dark secrets by converting one of the cards on this site...nondisclosed_email@example.com (BassJam)Wed, 30 Jul 2003 02:50:14 +0000 Re: Better Event and Treasure cards?https://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p554077,from=rss#post554077https://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p554077,from=rss#post554077I have the dungeon cards, the fark secrets in PSD in 150 dpi I can send you by email if you want (Send me a PM) For the events and the treasure cards, I prefer to used the new tables Bruno PS: I re-organize my files Here's the correct link for your avatar http://wquest.free.fr/images/Chaos%20Warrior%20Counter.gifnondisclosed_email@example.com (Bruno)Wed, 30 Jul 2003 02:03:15 +0000 Better Event and Treasure cards?https://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p554076,from=rss#post554076https://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p554076,from=rss#post554076All right, so here's my question, especially for you Brockhouses... You already have great looking Dungeon cards on this site, and I can easily change them around in Word to make my own cards as well. But do you or anyone else have any scans of similar quality of Event or Treasure cards? I realize that there are some in the White Dwarf compilations, but they are PDFs and the text is embeddded... I'm basically looking for one of each card that looks just like the originals and is modifiable... Thanks much! - Artnondisclosed_email@example.com (BassJam)Wed, 30 Jul 2003 00:17:32 +0000
