Emergency mana for mages
I was just reading the thread about resurrection power cost being higher to which I agree. This would put it out of the reach of lower level mages though. Thus, I would like mages to be able to channel their own physical energy into a spell when all mana is used. This would have to be only for an emergency situation.
When things get desperate, a mage could exchange hit points for mana. I would suggest a rate of three hit points per mana point to avoid abusing the ability. It would also be very tiring so perhaps a reduced movement for the next turn too.
I just feel that it prevents a mage from being useless on a bad power roll. I also like the idea of a heroic mage collapsing with exhaustion after saving his allies. Perhaps I watch too many fantasy films

Impossible!
Yeah, I like the idea. Only do it once an adventure, though.

Re: Emergency mana for mages
It doesn't really have the warhammer feel to have mages converting HP to MP at a whim. The reason mages are rendered useless sometime is simply because the winds of magic are unpredictable.
Mages are walking cannons in the game right now, that are capable of decimating entire rooms of mobs in one spell. To equalize this the mages have the power die and their limited power tokens.
As much as it would be interesting to see a mages sacrifice themselves by giving up their own hit points, reality is simply that, that type of fluff isn't in the warhammer world. Magic is raw and unpredicatable and letting the players have that much power would mean they have given themselves over to chaos(and even thats pretty far fetched for magic on the fly like the wizards in WHQ tend to do), and have a good chance of being exterminated.

Curses. Now I find myself convinced by the 'No' argument.
It does have something of a necromantic feel to it.

Re: Emergency mana for mages
That is a fair point. I kind of borrowed the idea from GURPs fantasy but thought it had potential. Perhaps I'll get to work on a necromancer character and include it with that instead
