Re: Runesmith Warrior

That is a good site...
Sigh, back to the drawing board!

Actually, I thought I'd run some of my ideas for the Runic Chants. I am trying not to stray too far from the official fluff, but here are a few of my ideas so far;
Disrupt Undead- when summoning spells are used, this Chant weakens the magic sustaining the creatures, giving them less wounds (not sure how many, can't actually destroy anything)
Distract creature(s)- lose attacks etc
Cause Fury- either in the warriors or monsters
Dispel magic- exactly what it says on the tin
Weapons breaking- chance of damaging or destroying evil magical items
Master Runic Chant of Buffalo-Charming- summons a herd of spirit buffalos to trample any foe with WS below 5, doing 1D6 wounds modified for half toughness, unless they have a dodge or resist magic capability, but not in conjunction with a parry, in which case it will... :S ...on second thoughts, let's forget this one.

Another good source. However
quote:

Runes are an all or nothing process, an embodiment of Dwarven ideology, there is no such thing as a temporary Rune.

I beg to differ (I mean, I really beg, I'm not gonna start all over again!)

Finished!

I decided in the end to call him the Runesmith's Apprentice. The idea is that he's a youngish dwarf trying to make it in the big Old World. As an apprentice to a Runesmith he knows the rituals and runelore, but isn't actually capable of making proper, permanent runes. He's as close to impulsive as dwarfs get, and he's willing to use less reputable methods (Runic Chanting) to achieve his ends. Same experimental fervour as Burlok Damminson had. And, like that worthy, the Runesmith's Apprentice will mature into a crotchety, hide-bound old Master.
If he survives.
I've emailed it to Bruno, so hopefully it might appear soon.

Cheers!

cool, as for the quote, ALL runes are temporary unless forged with an Anvil of Doom (which are becoming rare as the Dwarfs have lost the lore to forge new ones) Really good temporary runes might last a lifetime or so though, so those are permanent for gameplay purposes. And yes, some are one-use-only runes, or uses, etc.

btw, Peter, the signature at the bottom of all your documents is hilarious... emoticon cracks me up every time. I'm going to be too busy this weekend to really look at it between online PC games with family and a D&D event tomorrow and more real life gaming with family on Sunday... But it looks real cool though... (this is all on top of my current "City of Heroes" addiction) Now whenever I get around to making a smith, I'll do some juggling and balancing against yours.

I'm also thinking that my ideas would make a good NPC template to create individual Runesmiths at various cities for characters to visit as opposed to the Dwarven Quarter cheesemeister..

Heh heh heh, glad you like it. It does encapsulate the approach that my friends and I take to gaming. We enjoy a game, we play a game, then we rewrite the game totally, making it a thousand times more complicated.
Then, like fire ants, we move on!

I take it City of Heros is a MMOLRPGXXILP (or whatever the initials are)?

Re: Runesmith Warrior

In regards to CoH, the answer is yes, but it is actually a fun GAME, whereas most games of the type are incredibly boring exp/equipment grinds, which end up being addictive but not fun. A guy from my job got me into it, and his attention span is so short there's no way he could like the normal type of MMO...

The real reason I bought the game? GW killed Warhammer Quest Online and I was VERY angry since I specifically bought my PC with high enough specs to play it when it came out sometime in 2004 :S

Hmmm, yes, the pulling of Warhammer Online got quite a lot of folks annoyed. I was only vaguely aware it was in development, and even I was a bit miffed.
I wonder if there would have been a Runesmith for that..?
