i think the more we can experiement, test and create for this great game - the better emoticon

(ooh, slightly off topic - but speaking of testing, my friend stefan over at www.houserules.de asked me to look through some new stuff hes making for D&D style games... is it just me, or is WHQ very very easy to understand compared with D&D? - i had a look at some docs he made and i was overwhelmed with confusion and so many rules to take in - ive never played d&d before though, so that's probably it emoticon

I was introduced to D&D through BassJam and I still find it daunting creating and leveling a character. I usually would either end up extremely gimping my character (no patience for reading everything/ writing it down) or being too powerful (not keeping track of what and how many spells I let loose). I still find it tons of fun but mostly the playing part emoticon WHQ is more immediate which allows for the getting to the fun part faster emoticon

Okie, SOMEone wants to see a HUMAN Rune Master in action - so I've got all the ideas in my head now. Since Rune Masters don't obey ANY of the Dwarf laws, they will be able to put Runes on any old weapon, adding powers in between adventures. Since Rune Masters are usually disguised as Wizards, they will still be able to cast Wizard spells though not near as many. The resulting character will be really cool, I promise! I'm excited about this now. Human Runes will kinda suck compared to Dwarf ones, but there will be undeniable benefits. Also the tables will be quite fun for seeing if weapons and stuff explode in your face, or if Witch Hunters and Dwarves are after you.

Finally, Amaka is insisting that she's going to try tattooing a rune on her character's body! In a normal fantasy world, this would be no big deal, but this is Warhammer, where the source of all magic is the Warp! That means that I'm going to have to create rules for mutation and whatnot, because that's what happens when you have the Winds of Magic blowing right through your flesh! :mag I think the benefit will be this - a Rune Master can tattoo a rune on his body for 0 Gold (compared to smithing one onto a weapon or something.) Also, when a 1 is rolled in the Power Phase something crazy might happen, just like with the Chaos Warrior class. Yeah, Amaka is wanting to play with fire! Stay tuned - fun is on its way!

Re: Runesmith Warrior

Well that went quite well! Since my Ninja Kage Noba was BL 2, I took the new Rune Master and him through a random BL 1 dungeon. Despite a few tough encounters, we were never in any real danger. The Rune Master in this case elected to start out as a normal Wizard, though instead of the Hand of Death Scroll he began play with a Book of Klauser's Runes (which he'll study secretly when leveling) and a Sword with a Spell Rune inscribed in it from his master. We RPed that part to set the mood, and the Sword has a once-per-dungeon Lifebringer rune in it that can be cast with no power.

The Rune Master is BL 2 now, and learned one spell and one Rune. When (s)he tried to inscribe a Lightning Bolt spell into a Knife all went well. Unfortunately some Dwarfs investigated and angrily confiscated the weapon. I've got all the charts I need in my head now and just need to take the time to write everything out 'professionally'.

Best adventure moment. We were trying to dig our way out of a dead end when an enraged Ogre (we had already dispatched its brother) came charging down the hall straight towards the Rune Master! Suddenly a Sword of Might was disemboweling the beast while a Ninja Tanto opened his throat... The Ogre fell dead and lifeless before the frightened young Wizard could realize what had happened! (I rolled my 6+ Assassinate skill, and then rolled max damage, allowing me to bring my Tanto to bear, which I also hit with - One-shotting the Ogre was the coolest feat my Ninja has done yet!)

A new Warp portal opens, spewing forth all manner of Khornate horrors from your Warrior's back. The next scenario is a large scale Warhammer Fantasy Battle match between the hordes of Chaos and the Settlement you were visiting, with your Warrior's flayed corpse as the battlefield's centerpiece... :P
