posticon Rending Sword

I have a question about the Rending Sword on page 73 of the roleplay book. The description says it does an extra 2D6 wounds. Does that mean 1D6 plus Strength plus another 2D6, or does it mean 2D6 plus Strength? To me it seems way too powerful and I expected an errata or something. Any help on this topic would be appreciated.

Re: Rending Sword

The sword does indeed do 1D6 + strength +2D6 damage. Do not forget that, as your character goes up in level, he/she (to be pc these days) gets an extra die to do damage (2D6 on level 5 and 3D6 on level 9), and the weapon is also an objective room treasure that has a value of 1200 gold, and, as with everything, the higher the value, the better the weapon.

And in case you haven't noticed, practically every objective room treasure is powerful (just think what a Sword of Vengeance (page 74) can do with a Rune of Death (page 73) on it...)

OK, thanks. I guess it's just a case of a first level character having a great weapon. Maybe at higher levels it won't seem as powerful, but at this time it does seem like a huge asset.

heh heh - save a luck counter in case you drop on the way to a settlement, or lose it during an "unfortunate" event roll emoticon

By the end of a warrior's career, DD (Damage Dice) are more valuable than anything. I had to put my foot down hard to keep my player from creating Pit Fighters with 9DD. They can, I swear to you, get deathblows at BL10 with their DD. Favourite combos include the Rending Sword, the Gauntlets of Damzhar and, yes, the Rune of Death.

Edit: Oh, and that Level 11 Fire spell.

Beleive it or not: twice. Once by level 6 or 7, the second time by level 2 (o_O). THAT'S an interesting story I keep throwing around here. But seriously, the odds of rolling that many sixes is insane. I have a bad habit of awarding free money to heroes that roll all (3+ min) sixes in their damage roll.
