elfs initiative

well this is something ive always had a big problem with. the battle level 1 elf has an initiative of 6 it doesnt hurt that much when it comes to who attacks the monsters first but there are certain Things like dodging a pit and searching a room that hes to good at! in many of the games i play the elf can do anything and
has a large advantage over players like the dwarf considering most iniative tests need a 7 to pass i cant rise the initiative tests to higher because players like the dwarf or barbarian dont stand a chance. should i lower the elfs ini ? what do you guys do?

Re: elfs initiative

The important thing to remember here is the Golden Rule: a roll of 6 is always successful, and a roll of 1 always fails (see your rulebook!). This means that even the Elf has a 1 in 6 chance of embarrasing failure! Serves him right.

Elf's initiative

Well...
1) Roll secretly
2) apply modifiers (either - to the elf, or + to the other warriors and increase the difficulty)
3) use other values where possible
4) add an Intelligence value and use that

I've found that simply breaking the Elf's legs seems to work best here.

I use the 'fail on a role of 1' rule. That way there is always a chance of killing the pointy eared blighter.

Other than that, you could always make the ceiling very low so the elf has a worse chance than the dwarf; but that would be just plain evil :bad:

Re: elfs initiative

Initiative can be a female dog, especially when Elfs are concerned. That's why I only use initiative to set the order of combat. For all those tests, I created the "reflex" roll. Of course, this meant I had to change the modifications table a bit (mostly raising some stats of the Elf like jumping down and climbing and such other Elflike skills), but that's still better than the Elf succeeding even the most un-elf like task.

The reflex modifier is level dependent (like Initiative) and is 2 for a Novice, 3 for a Champion, 4 for a Hero and 5 for a Lord. (Actually all I did was take the Initiative of the Dwarf and shifted everything one level earlier.)

Total agreed.
I find that if a warrior is exelling in an area and the other warriors arn`t getting a look in use your power as dm to even the odds a bit it makes it a more fun and exciting game for all involved.

Can I borrow your dice then because I always seem to get the blasted things, especially when making a power roll.
