WHQ 2nd Ed - Starting The Game

I'm going to see what happens if I sit everyone down and we talk Quest a few pages at a time. Anyone have any thoughts on updates/revisions for pages 9-13 of the Rule Book? This covers Stat Bars, Starting the Game, the Turn Sequence (but NOT it's actual parts, they come later), Equipment and Treasure (Basic) and The Rule of 1 and 6 (<- embossed, encased in gold).

Thanks,
Timberwulf

PS: We'll take anything :P

Look! I'm replying to my own post! Oh, I'm sad, I know.

The poor Barbarian is getting the shortest edge of the stick. He needs a) new armour, or revised armour turning his Furs into real furs from the General Store and b) An item other than the Lantern. Perhaps, a Bezerker Sword, or a hunk of heal-y meat?

Yes, you're very sad, but that's not the point.

I wouldn't change the furs, or at least not change them to the furs of the Armourer. Since they're starting equipment, maybe make them like the furs you can buy, but without the penalty, so he can wear them with the chainmail or light armour and not get the -1 movement and -1 to hit (at least that's the way I play it). This should give him a boost, cause, like you say, just the lantern is kind of shabby. He should get some other item as well, since, well, everyone can use it if he doesn't want to be the leader.

But now we're on the subject of armour, what about the chainmail of the Dwarf? Is he able to wear an armour above it or does it qualify as a normal armour, thus removing it when he buys something else?

So very, very sad...

Quite clearly, nothing ought to touch the Holy Rule of One and Six, incribed on the high altar of the cathedral... (etc etc wax lyrical)

What's the difference betwixt the starting and shop furs?
You are right about equipment, though. I'm not sure about the rules for the lantern anyway. Maybe he could get some Norse ale?

The turn phase... I had thought some time back about putting more into the power phase- making it a 'set up phase' for any rules that'll temporarily affect or afflict our heros. Psychology, poison, so on.

I'm reading the pdf from the Museum, and am quite intrigued at the warrior token pictured. It seems to be an elf ranger. Curiouser and curioser.

The starting furs are part of a set of mystical +1T items that no one can buy yet everyone starts with. The real furs can be worn with chainmail or light armour.... actually, I don't know what I wws thinking about (*scratches head*)

>You are right about equipment, though. I'm >not sure about the rules for the lantern >anyway. Maybe he could get some Norse ale?

The lantern does seem a touch superfluous, but I guess it's only fair to let the Dwarf go first every once and a while... I just think we don't need an item to do that any more!

I like it, but we should probably hold that off until we start discussing the Power Phase (don't worry, it won't be long. There's not much to discuss on these pages).

lol, I saw that too. Odd....

In my particular vision for the character generation, you will be able to buy your starting equipment anyway.

Ahhh, yes. Much better. Will the Lantern be an item, in this case?

 emoticon
Depends... if 'light and lighting' are looked at and sorted out, then perhaps.
Yes, the lantern will be available, possible not in its current form.

I agree the lantern should change somehow (maybe make a necklace that gives light or something). The lantern is held, which means no shield or bow, so the only person who has his hands free to carry it, is a wizard. And who wants a wizard who can kill everything in the room just by sneezing go first?

Basically, the only thing that we use the lantern for is to say how far one can get from the party leader. We don't really count it in terms of encumbrance, as in a fight, it presumerably gets put down.
There's a great model; from Mordheim I believe, of a chap with a lantern on a pole, sort of attached to his pack so he can carry a sword and shield too.
