Re: WHQ 2nd Ed - Spellcasting (Basic) and the Tables

Hmm, yes, High Magic. I realised a while back that I'd rather shot myself in the foot with that one. It was meant to be basically the Ranger magic, but I forgot that so it's now on the level of serious master magic.
I will have to split it somehow later. The rules down will have a points cost increase and be made only for academics.

As to the whole College Wizards, they were basically put there because I agree that the Wizard featured would be swiftly eaten my Daemons or burnt out. It's up to the roleplayer to decide the motivations for their character, I just offer the rules.

Re: WHQ 2nd Ed - Spellcasting (Basic) and the Tables

You're right, of course, but the issue remains that High Magic, by mythos, should be at a higher level than College. I'll leave it to you to work that out though because this discussion has CLOSED.

*tries very hard not to turn that into a catch phrase*

Summary of "WHQ 2nd Ed - Spellcasting (Basic) and the Tables"

While the details of spellcasting will remain sketchy until The Custodian releases his tables, the following can be gleaned from this thread:

Wizards will gain 6 spells per Title.

Wizards will be divided into Colleges and will represent mere novices both to weaken them from the 1st Edition and to better help them match the Warhammer mythos.

Two types of casters will remain with a full spectrum of spells: High Mages (who will suffer from a yet unknown penalty, possibly a low spell count) and "Hedge" Mages (who, while they have a wide variety of spells, are cursed by the low power of them).

Some magic items will need to be tweaked to fit the new system. This is fine, as they were all going to be tweaked anyways.

I encourage the community not to comment on the magic system further until The Custodian has submitted his first document on the subject.
