Re: WHQ 2nd Ed - The Cards

What you all are thinking about is the Blocked Routes section on page 39 of the WHQ RPG book.

Golembane's right, these rules have been on the books all the time! Why has this been such a problem for players?

Besides, the Escape table has always been there as a viable solution. All in favour of moving it to the Advanced Rules where people will actually SEE it?

What the bloody hell is that doing with Warrior Development? I've been wasting my time looking for that in the Linking Games section and the Roleplay section. You should definetely move this, probably to the Linking Games bit as that's the only part that introduces keeping warriors for more than one adventure.

Re: WHQ 2nd Ed - The Cards

Sorry I've been away for such a long time... PC died... lost all of my Advanced WQ creations emoticon

Nontheless, my two cents, I love the use of cards. One way that I was utilyzing them in AWQ was to change their format to index card size, so that I could not only fit more info on each card, but I could also print them out on perforated index-card paper... no more cutting!

I used the card faces so generously supplied by Andrew, but for special sets I changed the hue of the background (face only) so that even though the backs looked the same, the cards were still easy to sort from one set to the other by looking at the face side, prior to setting up for the pre-game shuffle.

These cards were great as I was even able to include tables and such. I believe the index card size is 4x5". They looked cool too!

I am very happy to see all of this work continuing on in such an epic scale!
You guys ROCK... All of you!!!

Re: WHQ 2nd Ed - The Cards

Hmm, this will be tough.

Concerning the dungeon deck I think that Titanforges idea of rolling like in Advanced Hero Quest sounds fun, but I also agree that cards are good to have, so if we could somehow combine the two? Maybe have cards in regular gameplay and tables in advanced? Or just let the players choose which form they prefer.

And for the unexpected events in combat, why not make rules for that? I know there are rules for it in the rulesection of the museum. Maybe if we used something like that?

Re: WHQ 2nd Ed - The Cards

Main reason for getting rid of cards is to make the game a bit more durable.

Not everyone will be willing to make their own cards. I believe the rules we are all aiming for would easily be able to be made into cards if people wish for them, but like was stated earlier both Warhammer and Warhammer 40K left card-based games simply because its a bit more durable and easier to keep track of all the items if every things a table on a page somewhere.

At least in my eyes having the rules placed in a main book has many pros over cons, wheres as its the exact opposite for cards.

If all the rules are located in one section you don't have to worry about losing a card under the couch, crushing, bending, incineration, or whatever fate of god the cards might have in store for them.

Pretty much you'd either have to lose an entire page or the book as a whole, or have the entire book destroyed.

I am sure though the rules wouldn't change to such a degree that the players couldn't make home-made cards if they so wished.

Blood Bowl too, though the system still hasn't been fixed to the point that those rules are as fun as they used to be. I miss my dirty tricks :'(

All good points, Golembane. Keeping the rules "Card-Combatable" would allow players to create their own, or if we're very careful it would let us continue to use the ones we have!

Re: WHQ 2nd Ed - The Cards

True!
I guess that having tables to roll on would be the way to go. Everyone has dice, not neccessarily a printer and cash to get blank index paper. You are so right, once I think about it.

Those cards sure were a big hit for me when WQ first came out, and I still love shuffling and drawing. But this may not be so with everyone else. My AWQ index cards even included the entire range of EVENTS (the between quest one's) from the Brockhouse pages. But the thought og being able to tweek out the game and supplement it in the future, as all good games do, dice and tables are surely the way to go!
I just wish I wouldn't have lost all that data so I could show this forum what I came up with just for being able to play the game myself... since there really aren't any people in these parts.

I was using cards even to randomly unfold plots in quests so that each time you use a particular deck (only once per campaign) the story had many different outcomes. Of course this stuff can all be done on tables, but playing solo is more fun when you cannot see the other possibilties in your face.
