WHQ 2nd Ed - Combat Playtesting

Given the debate over these issues, I am going to do the following. I am going to run 10 tests, each featuring each one of the 4 original warriors. At any given time:

The Dwarf will be armed with the heaviest armour.

The Barbarian will be armed with moderate armour

The Elf will be armed with an assumed number of Elven "damage-avoiding" equipment and little if any armour.

The Wizard will not be armoured.

We'll use Hand Weapons (swords and axes) for our test, though for Critical System #2 (see below) I will make a note as to what would happen with each type of weapon (sword, axe, mace, the world's most boring polearm (seeing how all of them have special rules, this one will somehow not)) in my summary. This is best as we can make the tiny adjustments warriors would have with better weapons in our heads.

I will be running each test with the following systems. I will run each fight multiple times until I have my results.

Armour
- The Original, for comparison and golembane's new suggestion in the armour thread
- Mordheim revisited
- Mordheim revisited with To Wound rolls
- Original with To Wound rolls only and removal of S/T influence on dice

Criticals
- The Original (ala Deathblow 360)
- Double damage, no armour criticals on 6's to hit (I think that's what you said, golembane)
- Weapon specific crits, as proposed so long ago
- Note: To Wound roll system of Armour, I will allow crits on the To Wound roll instead of the To Hit.

All criticals will fail if you NEEDED a 6 to make the roll as golembane suggested. That just makes sense.

Equivalent dice rolls will be used wherever possible. i.e.: I roll to hit, wound, armour and damage. Since the second two rolls have no bearing on Armour System one, they are ignored, but ARE used in systems 2-3 as appropriate.

No spells will be used (this includes the Emperor Dragon's Chaos Magic 2, we'll assume he casts them on someone else) but all other skills will be. We'll also assume the warriors aren't carrying any potions or the like. We'll deal with those darn spells when we come to them.

These are the tests:

Test 1 - BL1 Warrior fights 1 Giant Bat (for comparison purposes, really)

Test 2 - BL1 Warrior fights 8 Snotlings (surrounding)

Test 3 - BL1 Warrior fights Minotaur

Test 4 - BL2 Warrior fights 2 Chaos Warriors (assumingly in front of him)

Test 5 - BL5 Warrior fights Gorgon

Test 6 - BL5 Warrior fights 1 Stone Troll (Yuck, Vomit)

Test 7 - BL10 Warrior fights Dragon

Test 8 - BL10 Warrior fights Giant (special attacks)

Test 9 - BL10 Warrior fights Emperor Dragon

Test 10 - BL10 Warrior fights Bloodthirster

EDIT: Sorry, that should have been 1 Stone Troll. Reading the wrong table.

Re: WHQ 2nd Ed - Combat Playtesting

Here's the starting of the document. I'm afraid I haven't got that far. This takes a lot longer than I'd have hoped and I wasted today playing Undying (sorry). I'm going to be away all weekend and doing the tests where I am (ie: on paper) is a waste of time because typing these things up is taking half the time. If anyone wants to continue the things I've been doing over the weekend, please feel free to "call" a few combats and do so.

It might help to mark the To Wound roll as "n" for armour systems A and B... but that may just be me getting confused as to what system I was writing all the time. I hope the stuff I've written is right...

If there are any questions about what IS written, ask them ASAP... I might not have left yet. Oh, and if you do a combat with multiple attacks (Which is technically everything but the Gorgon), divide the rolls made by each side with a pipe (|) and between attacks with anything that suits your fancy. Maybe a comma. Anyways, I hope this works!

Final Note: It's a .doc file.

Hah! A computer program! So simple! That's all I need to do!

Thank you, Centennial College, for wiping my mind of the practical uses of programming. :@

I took your document and begun to studyied it.
Thinks that everyone must work on theses tests.

I count on everyone to help us. It's our first real challenge.

If a few other people work on this, we'll be able to take averages, which would be great. It's also good to have a non-computerized source, lol. Though, if no-one out there wants to do the testing part, at least read the stuff when it comes out so we can get a group impression of what's going on.
