The Wardancer's Position in the Party & the Lantern

I think Webquest is setup for the Wardancer to go last in order (automatically), but I see no reason for this in his rules, unless I have missed something. I think I saw somewhere in Webquest a statement something like "a Wardancer is always last".

As I understand the Wardancer rules, he just cannot be the leader while he wants to use his twin swords -- at least this is infered from his rules. It is a matter of difficulty with carrying the lantern.

Of course, I know that in Webquest, the lantern rules are normally not strictly enforced, probably mostly because it is a hassle to try to bring back, or lose (as the case may be), warriors that have walked beyond the lantern light (two sections away from the leader).

I personally see no problem with a leader setting the lantern down while he fights. Again, this would be a problem with the Wardancer's Dance of Death. If he were to set the lantern down and then danced about the board in combat, a monster could then steal or extinguish the unguarded lantern.

AND, of course, the GM has the power to reorder the party in any way he and/or the players want, with a preference usually for what the players want.

Anyone with further observations or comments about this? I love to learn from the rest of you WHQers!

I was wondering the same thing, we tend to let the wardancer go in initive order after whomever has the lantern. I havent been able to find any rules to contradict this.

I My games, table as well as online, the Wardancer usually goes second (according to initiative) unless the player wants to go later.
Wardancers as leaders is definately a no go, the logical reasons you describe sound good and are probably the main reason why he cannot be a leader but I think that apart from giving the other players a fair chance in gold it would also have something to do with the background of the Wardancer.

For instance, the rulebook states that (in accordance to settlements): "Where possible, a Wardancer will avoid such places, leaving dealings with mankind to those Elves who understand their ways."
Furthermore it says: "Wardancers are the wildest of the Wood Elves: fierce, proud and untamed." and when levelingDuring this time it is advisable to avoid the Wardancer, as he will be in his wildest, most animal state, more beast than Elf
The Roleplaying guidelines state that: the Wardancer is wild, wary and distrustful.
These are all qualities that would make him unfit as a leader.
