Web Quest questions

I have been looking at the Web Quest program and trying to figure out how things work. I have a few questions I would like to ask.

1) Is there a way to change the character that is joined to a game (before it starts)? For example, I joined the newest game with an Elf but later decided that I'd rather play a wizard character. Is there a way to do that, or would I be stuck with my original choice?

2) Not really a question, but... I noticed that in the WebQuest there are buttons for dice rolls. When I click on one and it places the 1D6 there is a space after it. I was rearranging the info and deleted the space after the 1D6. After I sent the orders it did NOT roll the 1d6 and instead printed 1d6 as text. I just thought it might be good to change this or otherwise make people aware that the space after the 1D6 is needed.

3) Is there a common/preferred format to entering orders? I didn't see any formating or helpful hints/ideas anywhere. The way I tried was:
<character name>
<movement>
<attack monster name> <to hit roll> <damage roll>

4) For actions that don't have a specific button for their rolls (Pinning rolls, spells, etc) We manually type in what we are rolling for, then use the separate dice buttons?

Hmm.. I think that's all I remember right now. I'll post if I have some more questions.

You've pretty much got the right idea. I think the interface will be changed around at some point (the one for the monsters vs warriors is a lot cooler!) but basically you should treat the Orders page as a text box with the chance to generate dice rolls. Some characters will write a little prose (or poetry in some cases*) while others will bash the buttons.
So format of orders it is up to the player. So long as you get in the required info, that's fine. I will write a little something to that effect for Bruno to stick up, now you mention it!

As for changing your character, you'll have to ask Bruno to do that for you. For now!

Oh, and for point 4) I think that when it gets rejigged, the menus for items etc will include spells. But pinning is a good idea!

EDIT- update, I've just checked, and spells are already there (on the menu to the right). But you'll have to roll applicable dice.

*Paulus, I use the term lightly

No. Too much complicatated. By the way when you choose your warrior you see the choice of the others players.

Okay about the order interface. Historically the bug with dice is one of the first bug founded and I didn't correct it even I had the solution (for each...). First it's my next job to code a completely new one.
I am not satisfied with the order interface because there is lot of time wasting between players and GM.
It's a fact that Players of webquest prefers to play a warrior so my goal is to help the GM

But first
- I'll code a way to edit Warriors (name and bio).
- I'll add a way to edit player information. That way other player can have a look at them.
- an auto add pin and auto remove pin features (for the GM)

When it's done I'll code a completely new interface. The goal is just to avoid to have a GM between each warriors.
So you'll have a map with monsters.
You can click on the empty cases around yourself
Click on yourself > item, skill, spell
Click on an empty case > move
The server will check everything (if you're pinned, if you want to use an object (decrease it))
You'll have just a very small interface to write an ambient text
The GM in next phase will have an a acess to all your informations.
Nothing will be forget, the game will be fast.
Some effect can't be done without a GM, so the game will ask the GM to do an action.

If you really appreciate webquest, the best is to host a game...

Happy questings

Bruno: I am currently returning to school to get my BS in Visual & Game Programming. While, I will admit there is a bunch of stuff that I don't know, I do know some programming stuff. What does Webquest run using? Flash, Java? If you need another pair of eyes or some minor debugging help, I'll attempt to help. I can't guarantee I'll be very proficient at first (I'm more of a C++ kind of guy right now) and it depends on school how much time I'll have. I'm still willing to give it a go, if you want the help.

Re: Web Quest questions

Webquest is written in php v4 and used a mysql database.
I've begin to learn php with the museum and webquest and many things needs to be rewritten.

By the way school is more important than webquest. But I'll certainely ask your help in a future when the new module order has been written... You'll help to write the new algorythm.

I'll begin to work back on webquest in three days, I go back to work and I'll have plenty of free times during my travels.

Thanks to offer your help and have fun everyday with webquest.
For my part, this break of ten minutes is always a pleasure.
