posticon WebQuest 2006 Awards!

Hello!
This is to announce the opening of nominations for The WebQuest 2006 Awards. This is an idea I have just thought of so might be a bit rubbish, but here we go anyway:

Each member of Webquest and/or this board can make nominations for these positions. To make a nomination, send me an Inbox PM or email with 'WebQuest 2006 Awards' as the subject. Each person can make one nomination for each position. When I am bored of taking nominations, I'll open the voting for each position.

Here are the catagories:
People
(Here you vote for a specific player. You can't vote for yourself, and I am also ruling myself out as a nomination candidate. Anyone else, though, goes.)
Best Roleplayer- the person who best embodies their character and plays a consistantly excellent game
Best Gamesmaster- the person who runs the best games, who gives fun situations and isn't afraid to kill off a character or two...
Award for Broadband Junkie- the person who seems to be always online! Usually noticed by them submitting a go as soon as you've set it to their turn.

Character
(Here you vote for a particular Warrior. Included in this is the bio, the equipment he or she has accumulated, and the acts of the player. If you like, you CAN vote for your own Warrior, or for one of mine)
Best Halfling Character- The Warrior who best embodies the spirit of this race.
Best Dwarf Character- The Warrior who best embodies the spirit of this race.
Best Elf Character- The Warrior who best embodies the spirit of this race.
'Coolest' Warrior- very subjective- which do you think is the coolest?
'Hardest' Warrior- the one you would least like to have to fight, and most like by your side in a combat!
Most Mystical Mage- the wizard, cleric or other spellcaster who is most the master of magic.

Game
(Here you vote on an actual game/adventure, past or present. You may have played or run it, or just watched it.)
Best Storyline- most interesting, epic, hilarious or beautiful
Best Short Game- or randomly generated map.
Best Alternative Game- best game which couldn't be called 'Warhammer Quest'- examples might be Warrior vs Warrior games or one with a radically different set of rules or objectives.

I've no idea how well this will work, but I'm hoping it will. So, check over the list of games and Warriors, and send me some ideas for nominations.

EDIT- you can reply to this post to give your thoughts about the nominations, the categories, or to tell me it's a stupid idea... up to you! emoticon

I like this idea. I think I know what Im chosing for my favorite game but otherwise I will have to give serious consideration to my other nominations.
Also I dont think you should be able to vote for your own character (although my wizard Sara is kicking arse) maybe if you have a warrior your particularly proud of we could have a thread to post thier details or a link to the game thier in, for people to go through?

Question: By position, do you mean the three: person, character, and game (I am guessing this is the one, but I want to be sure)? Or is each category under those a position?

EDIT: Just leave it to me to find a way to get confused. emoticon

No, by position I mean each individual thing such as 'Best Storyline' and 'Best Halfling'. The reason I split it up is to make it clear what you're voting for- the Game rather than the GM or the Warrior rather than the player.
But I can see how it's confusing!

Hey, I like it!!! Will I be able to go on a cruise with my cash prizes ;-)

This is going to take a bit of thought when I get some time. Are we having anonymous votes to thecustodian or just sticking them on this topic?

I like it too, the winner gets an instant level 5 character! Lol!

Ofourse the year is far from finished, I'm sure lots of extra games will come, You'll have to time your votes well.

What if the broadband junkie's computer has a heart attack (for instance). He'll recieve an award while everyone is adopting his warriors?

Indeed, and I can see this process lasting a good few months anyway. I'm not committing to do it on a regular basis right now so timing doesn't matter much.

In response to Grogling, you send me your nominations, and I thought we'd do voting via the Poll function of this site; otherwise that will be email too.

Response to Cutlass' comment: Oh dear! A computer heart attack! That is worse than my power outage AND my DSL difficulties combined.

But, back on topic, I really like this awards idea. I think it could help inspire us all to greater quality in all we do in Webquest if we let it do so.

I personally think that the recognition would be reward enough (though other rewards would be added incentive). I remember getting the "Best room of the week" several weeks in a row at Bible college. You should have seen how I did extra dusting and tiddying of things with all that motivation.

I know not everyone is affected the same by such things, but it seems that this could be good for Webquest in general.

Think of the GMs "dusting off" some of their storylines and rearranging some of their "used before" dungeon layouts for better appearance. Then there's the players who will be polishing their character's manners (or lack thereof) and honing their combat tactics.

On and on I could go, but enough said.

Indeed, the positions you list, Custodian, will take much thoughfulness.

I think it good that we GMs advertise this forum to our players, because some probably do not visit the forum often (or maybe that was just me until recently). The more who nominate AND vote, the better this will be for everyone in my not-too-humble opinion.

So were ready to begin the nominations?

Best Halfling is obviously Thyrael leader of "Thyrael's Tough Guys!"

Best Dwarf.... ummm *Thyrael wanders in wearing a fake beard* Thyrael the Grudgy Guy?

Best Elf...... *Thyrael enters on stilts and wearing pointy ears* Thyrael the Tall who is an Elf really he is?

Well you see the trend I would also like to nominate him as Coolest Warrior, Toughest Warrior, Most Mystical Mage, Best GM and Favorite Game!
