Re: The Fate of Bilbo Baggins -- All Halfing Party Adventure (Game #196)

Thecustodian, your continued advice on this may be quite useful in the upcoming adventure, because I would like whatever is done or improvised to be a fairly accurate reflection of what the Chef will eventually be in his full rules.

EDIT: I like the idea of using recipes. Sounds like some very tasty culinary adventures await!

Important Fate of Bilbo Game Function -- Individual Standing Orders for Meal Participation

Whenever the Chef prepares a meal there is a certain amount of risk (see the Halfling Chefs rules above) of food poisoning, because of the various questionable ingredients that he finds in the dungeons. Therefore, some warriors will at times want to refrain from the meal that is prepared.

This can pose a difficulty in Webquest functionality. So, I have come up with a simple standing orders system (for me it is simple anyway). This system will be used to keep the game moving, so that the GM does not have to continually activate players and wait for their responses before allowing the game to proceed.

Warriors will be required to choose one of the following three options as their standing order for whenever the Chef prepares and serves a meal. Warriors may chose at any time to change their standing order option, but the GM will proceed according to the last given order each time that a meal is prepared. Of course, Halflings will still only be able to resist a meal on a 4+, which the GM will roll for them as needed.

Options A, B, or C

A = Always Eat When Hungry -- "I will always partake when less than full (under full wounds), even if I risk dying from food poisoning."

(NOTE: a halfling may still try to save himself with his Lunch Box or other food apart from the meal provided by the Chef)

B = Better Be Careful -- "I will always choose to partake unless on full wounds or only on 1 wound."

C = Complaints Against the Cook -- "I have heard about his/her cooking, and prefer NOT to partake, unless I just can't resist".

Yeah, with having such an extra layer of decision making is definitely tougher in Webquest. I think having standing orders is a good way to do it, and also let people set their threshhold wounds where they would always eat vs. never eat (like always eat below 9 wounds, never above 3 wounds) so warriors could have more control and less margin of error if they desire.

And yeah, spices/recipes seems like a great idea for advanced rules. If we dont get them at BL1, no biggie, just something to throw in later.

Okay, we only need one more hobbit, uh halfling, to get this game going. AND, of course, quite a bit of work by the GM.

Anyone who wants to join the game, please just be sure to read the stuffs here first and then join with the Halfling Thief and tell me which class you want to play: Thief, Chef or Fieldwarden.

Since Webquest was shut down, I am now trying to revive this game in my message board. However, I have opened it up for some other types of warriors to join.

See this topic in Old Warrior's Message Board for details:

]NEW GAME: The Fate of Bilbo Baggins
