The Wizards Duel!

I'm going to start a colleges of magic battle to see which College produces the best wizards. I need one of each wizard type. Sign up here with which wizard you wish to use so I can reserve you a spot.
It will be basicly a knockout style compatition until there is only one survivor.
The losers wont be killed off but will probably gain some sort of handicap from the experiance. The Winner will gain some swanky magic item and level up.
As there are only 7 types of college wizard in the game I'm open to sugestions as to who gets the "wild spot".

How about tweaking an Aes Sedai (by Yours truly) to fill that "wild spot"?

Actually, I am just kidding. But since you asked...

Too bad the Elf Ranger Mage has chance casting. emoticon

As a fan of tweeking the warriors I'm slightly tempted by letting some crazy wizardy type in. I think I will stick to the type already coded into the game.

Anyway the ranger mage always has the advantage in combat providing he makes it close enough. Although were focusing on magic I'm not adverse to the odd sword being used now and again.

Re: The Wizards Duel!

Here's a serious suggestion for your "wild spot" (eighth wizard to use). He is already basically coded into the game as a normal wizard.

I assume that you are already counting the normal wizard (from basic four) as one of the seven.

Therefore, I suggest giving the sorcerer a spot to see how he stands up versus the other wizard types. He is very much a wizard except that his power is handled differently and he may choose any three random spells from any of the three decks.

The GM would only need to modify the Maximum and Current power tokens of the Sorcerer on a regular basis (and at the very beginning -- 2D6 tokens instead of 1D6), because he casts spells out of his personal power store rather than by using the current power. And, his power tokens are replenished at the end of the turn by the current power points.

Also, the GM would just need to give the sorcerer three random spells of the class(es) that the player chooses, unless he chooses to have one of each class (which is already done in WQ). This would be done at the beginning to replace Webquests random spell selections for the basic wizard.

Of course, I recommend that the player make the choices before he sees the actual spells that Webquest generates, bec. this should be a blind choice, not a "let me see if I want to get something different" kind of a choice. The GM could just delete the first three spells right away and then ask how many spells the player wants in each class (for a total of three).

The modified sorcerer also has a chance to go insane or some such thing if he tries to cast a spell when lacking the power store to do so. Here is the revised sorcerer's link (By Luminos, revised by Todd and Art Franklin):

These are the seven so the normal wizard could be included aswell. I believe the missing Mage is the Jade. Which I can't see in warrior creation but several games have it as a restricted warrior.
Alchemist (Gold Mage)
Astronomer (Celestial Mage)
Fire Wizard (Bright Mage)
Grey Wizard
High Priest (Light Mage)
Mentalist (Amethist Mage)
Shaman (Amber Mage)

Indeed, the Jade Wizard requires a bit of extra effort because the version being adapted includes summoning spells which are problematic to say the least. Not that I'm doing any of the work.
The Jade Wizard will actually be more of a nature-druid than a college Wizard when finished but I think he/she will be easily playable as either.

Me young? Why when I was a kid we had real young'ns not like what you get these days.

Yeah or something like that anyway. Besides Tweaking requires so much effort, you have to actually read the rules of the warrior and stuff. *shudders*
