WHQ-Online Project

--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

This is a sample screenshot of an online WHQ game I'm working on atm. I still need all the base game *digital/scanned corridors but have all the other base game elements. Once I've completed the base game I'll start adding on all the expansion materials. I'm hoping I can have the initial game ready in about a month.

This online version will require a GM or GM/Player & can have 2 or more players per game. Fully functional chat & will use Teamspeak or Ventrillo for voice Chat. I'm using all the origional tile artwork atm but will also eventually add custom tiles that will include walls & maybe animated features (doors, traps, ect).

I'm curious if this would be something other WHQ fans would be interested in playing beyond my own game group.

Re: WHQ-Online Project

I might be interested in playing, but not if it requires being online at the same time as the other player(s). PBeM or similar arrangements work better for me because my life is so varied and scattered. lol

You can click on the WQ link in my signature below to see the several games I am running in my message board.

Also, here is a topic in my message board where one Scoffer has been working on coding an online version of the game. Unfortunately, Scoffer was in an accident and hasn't been able to work on this project very much for some time.

]Warhammer Quest Online Game

I have one concern about your game: it is the use of the images of the official game. I am afraid that Games Workshop would not approve. Of course, that is more your concern than mine. I just would hate to see you put a lot of work into it and end up getting shut down perhaps.

EDIT:I am wondering if it would be possible to set up games like this where only those actually playing them would be able to access the images and etc... I know I can (if I choose) set the games up in my message board with restricted viewing access. I do this for the game's official reference materials. This way the general public cannot access them, but the players in my games are given access.

I noticed, Savage Sully, that you were online about the same time as I. Therefore, I make this extra reply just to let you know I added an edit to my first reply. emoticon

This game would be completely unofficial and in no way endorsed by GW Limited.
=)

The software I'm using is a generic virtual tabletop program. The software can be used to play any miniature rpg. All images have to be imported by the GM/Players previous to playing. I hope there won't be any copyright issues as it's purely for Personal Use & Not Commercial use... also I own a copy of the game. Any copies of content would therefore be for Personal use only. I hope this would be viewed no diferently than photocopying character sheets or handouts to be given to players.

This online game would require players to DL the software demo & then I would be supplying the floating license for unlocking the full program. Content packages like the tiles, cards, ect would have to be exchanged via the game interface or through email & installed by the players.

The games would all be live & real time. Each player logs into the GM's/my server using the provided ports. I would have to use forums & email to setup game times & dates. The program is very stable & is a breeze to DL & install.

This isn't really a stand alone game as it requires a GM to run the server/games. Like monster movement/placement, card turns, adding dice modifiers, placing map tiles, ect. Basically it would be like a virtual copy of the game's contents (miniatures, cards, tiles ect) but all the mechanics are worked out by the GM & players. There's no programing involved other that importing images. Recording damage & altering char stats will require atleast the GM to have hard copies of the character sheets if not all the players as well.

This game would only be accessble by the players. As the server would be run from my compy no one else would be able to view the game during play unless given direct access by the GM.

I checked out your site btw & added it to my favs. =) I am also working on custom map tiles so I will use those as I complete them.
=)

Blood Caverns-Cutom Tiles

Here's one of the custom tiles I've done. I'm trying to make the edges of each" Blood Caverns" tile matchup. This way each tile can seemlessly fit to any room or coridor.

"Blood Caverns 4x2 Corridor 01"
Example Event: Potential Cave In! As the players move over EACH tile space they must roll 1D6 if the Result is a "1" a cave in does 1D6 wounds. Any player that triggers a cave in must spend his next move digging himself out. Any Dwarf character can spot the dangers & negates the need for the Cave In Roll (No cave in will occur if a Dwarf is present).

Nice corridor!

I might be able to play once in a while -- as long as the game could be continued later -- which it appears could be done with this method. But, I doubt that I could GM this type of game without disappointing the players too much with my lack of commitment to the time.

EDIT: BTW, how could I obtain this virtual tabletop program?

I had to register just to respond to this - some friends and I who have recently scattered to the winds have been trying to figure out a way to do online games that are easily visible, or at least potentially done simultaneously.

This project is something I'd be extremely interested in seeing done, and something I'd be happy to help with in any way I could - I have no scanner, but I do have the game itself and the rules for most of the other characters so I could type most stuff up.

We'd looked into some of the tabletop programs, but I'm not sure how to change any of them to run with Warhammer Quest, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

[sign in to see URL], rambling now. Just wanted to say I'd love more information on how to do this, and to offer my services if I can help out in any way.

Sorry so long to respond Old Warrior...

Here's a link to icon...
]iCon 08 Virtual Tabletop Convention

This site will give you a feature breakdown of the better VTs around. I use Battlegrounds RPG. Though NOT free, I think it has all the best features and support.

I spent all last night scanning in all the tile boards & cards for the basic game. I'm now working on getting all the charts & tables from the Roleplay book imported to use for on-screen references. For my first game I'm gonna run the "Death Below Karak Azgal" adventure. With some tweeks here and there so hopefully any players who have played it in the past will still find it fun.

This project may take until the end of March to fully integrate all the expansion materials & characters but I will have "Death Below Karak Azgal" game completely ready for play in about two weeks.

Play testing it solo...

--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

One of the great things I've discovered about playing WQ this way is that there are no limitations in tile placement. You can even have doubles of the same tile like 2 Firequasms or 3 Corner Corridors!

For doing multiple Deeps you simply load up another encounter when the players progress to the next level of the Deep. You can use a pre-planned encounter as you see I've done in this screenshot. I'm numbering the tiles within the folders to allow them to be randomly rolled for as well (still have to get a complete count & relate it to a specific dice roll).

For now the game relies heavily on a GM to have all the needed source/rule materials in front of him. As the project progresses I'll be able to make the game more independent of the GM's hardcopy Roleplaying book by adding in as many of the tables & charts as possible. *Everyone including the GM will have to keep track of each player's Warrior on a paper adventure record (don't wanna take all the fun out of it... otherwise it would be a video game!)

Play test:

First Battle took place in the T-Junction against 3 Snotlings!

BRPG allows animated dice rolls that are viewed by the relevent players. Macros allow modifiers to be created, organized, and saved for future use.

Barbarian Rolls to Hit the Snotling in front of him...

Barbarian rolls to Wound the Snotling. A D6 is rolled then his Strength of +4 is added to the roll and the Snotling's Toughness of 1 is subtracted.

*In these pics the rooms yet unexplored appear faded. This is the Hide feature. When players are logged into the game they Cannot see any Objects or Figures that are set on the GM's side to Hide.

During the Monster's Phase the Snotling Rolls to Hit and misses...
