I cannot help but laugh because your sig says "Evil Quester" but it was the Trollslayer's player that was truly evil! I've think I've told my best stories on here in one place or another. The one I will repeat here is to show that at Battle-level 1 the most dreaded Monster is the Minotaur. While this is a no-brainer, a Minotaur caused my shortest quest ever as well as the shortest life of a PC. Amaka and I rolled a Druid and a Witch Hunter respectively. We spent a half hour shuffling cards and planning the adventure and doing prologue etc. Then we set foot in the dungeon, which looked safe enough as it was a hallway. Round 1: Power Phase - Druid rolls a '1'. Druid rolls high on Monster table; I cut number appearing from 3 Minotaurs to 1 due to half the normal number of party members. Minotaur appears, guarding the hallway. Warrior's Phase - We use all kinds of means to hurt the Minotaur, but barely scratch him. Monster's Phase - Minotaur takes two long strides down the hallway, bellows and chops my Witch Hunter deep. Then he give a mighty swing and separates the Witch Hunter's upper body from his lower. Healing Phase - Amaka asks "Can I heal you?" Me: "Healing Hands is not going to reattach my body." Druid gasps in disbelief at the carnage that used to be her traveling companion and leaves dungeon forever. End of story. From a rules perspective, I play using a Critical Wound system where characters below -10 Wounds may have suffered a massive trauma of some sort. The first Mino hit knocked my character to 1 Wound. The second one was max damage or close to it. I failed a saving throw, and then had to roll on a Critical Wound chart from the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay book (1980s version). The results were brutal, but it was awesome! nondisclosed_email@example.com (BassJam)Tue, 23 Jun 2009 03:21:42 +0000 Re: Tales of Dreaded Monsters! {Please tell your tale(s)}https://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p559791,from=rss#post559791https://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p559791,from=rss#post559791Yes, Deep Two. My mistake (it was over 6 years ago). Still bugs me today though. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Mark Gunton)Thu, 28 May 2009 22:20:49 +0000 Re: Tales of Dreaded Monsters! {Please tell your tale(s)}https://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p559787,from=rss#post559787https://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p559787,from=rss#post559787Well, I think the Mummy is a dreaded monster, but with a Bret. Knight and a Trollslayer, maybe not so much. I am curious. You said in the First Deep of Karak Azgul... Did you mean the Second Deep (as in Halls of the Dead), or are you speaking of a different adventure than the one outlined in the RolePlay Book? Troll Slayers and Bret. Knights will probably never get along very well. lolnondisclosed_email@example.com (OldWarrior)Thu, 28 May 2009 12:03:07 +0000 Re: Tales of Dreaded Monsters! {Please tell your tale(s)}https://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p559785,from=rss#post559785https://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p559785,from=rss#post559785Not quite a 'Tale of Dreaded Monsters', more a 'Tale of Dreaded Players' this one: I was playing a Bretonnian Knight in a party consisting of: Pitfighter Wizard Trollslayer Me We were doing the First Deep of Karak Azgal after a couple of warm up sessions to start our characters off. It was going pretty well, up until the Mummy room. At this point, I characterfully called the Mummy as my target for the fight and gamely started delivering the righteous smackdown to it. The rest of the party started pummeling the other undead in the room and a turn later I had the mummy down to a scraping of wounds left. Unfortunately, the Trollslayer had wiped out his opponents in the first combat turn and despite my trying to persuade him otherwise, leapt in and beheaded my mummy. I hassled him since he lost me the Honour Points for the solo kill and when the treasure item was revealed it was... The Sword of Couronne! Which turned out to be my Quest Item (damn!!) Which the Trollslayer refused to turn over to me unless I paid him DOUBLE its Gold value. I paid him (I gained an extra 5 free attacks for the Quest Completed reward!), but for the rest of the Deep he kept leaping in everytime I was facing a monster and stealing my Solo Kill Honour Points. The GM kept suggesting a duel of honour between us, but the Trollslayer's player kept refusing (coward) and left after that gaming session, never to return. Grrrr! nondisclosed_email@example.com (Mark Gunton)Thu, 28 May 2009 05:34:18 +0000 Tales of Dreaded Monsters! {Please tell your tale(s)}https://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p559759,from=rss#post559759https://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p559759,from=rss#post559759In one of my solo games years ago, I remember having a party of Warriors which had the privilege of fighting against a Bloodthirster! For any unfamiliar, the Bloodthirster is a Greater Daemon of Khorne and does not appear until level 10 in the monster tables. While I do not remember all the details, I do remember that it was very challenging! The Wizard kept trying to run beyond the range of the creature's movement, while hoping that it would not use its Daemon Whip to retrieve him. Also, there was a great struggle of trying to heal while the formidable foe continually drained the magical power from the dungeon (both by Drain Power and Drain Magic 5+). Sadly, I do not recall whether the party survived the encounter. Anyway, while thinking about this past experience, I thought perhaps some players would like to tell their tales of how their Warrior(s) survived -- or even perished -- when facing some horrible creatures in the dungeons. EDIT: Obviously, you can start your own topic to tell your story if you wish, but this topic might help get the story-telling onto a start.nondisclosed_email@example.com (OldWarrior)Mon, 27 Apr 2009 02:59:42 +0000
