The only one special location that you can find in the village is Alehouse. The village have every other shop as well.

Other settlements (Towns and Cities) have all shops and special locations.

The only thing that you have to remember ist that to find a special location you have to rool a 7 or more using two dices in the Town and three dices in the City.

The same with the avability of the items you want to purchase. Each item have stock number, and each time that you want to buy something you have to roll against stock number. And in a vilage you are using one dice, in town - two dices, in city - three dices. That's all. I hope that it will help you, and even more I hope that you will understand what i wrote emoticon

There is at least one exception to special locations and villages. If you allow the Fighting School from the Pit Fighter book, it can be found on a 6+.

Re: settlements

Remember that many Warriors -- especially custom Warriors, have strange (or unique) rules about Special Locations. The Halfling Thief and the Ogre (by Games Workshop mail order and magazine respectively) both come to mind right about now, ... and the Wardancer (Wood Elfe Troupe - away from settlements), ... AND my own Friendly Giant (special size rules and etc...). emoticon

I am not sure if anyone mentioned it, but the common Alehouse does not require a roll to find. The assumption is that every settlement has one and no one should have trouble finding it. Other special locations might not be available at all in some settlements - even in towns and cities - assuming that all Warriors trying to find them rolled too low a number.

I house rule that Warriors can try more than once to find the same place if they at first do not succeed. Also, I allow each subsequent Warrior to add +1 to his roll to find a location for each Warrior who has found it before him in the same settlement.

To help myself (solo games) and others (in some games I GM), I have created some amateur images illustrating the shops and special locations. If you can view these images, you might find them helpful. Also, feel free to copy them for your own use.

I host them in the Other Custom Stuff section of Old Warrior's Stronghold.

The first image, The Market, has all the shops and the Special Locations which might be found in a village. The second one focuses on Special Locations which can be found in Towns and Cities. I created these images before my acquaintance with the Empire Soldier custom Warrior, which also has a special location that many other Warriors could visit -- the Empire Army Camp.

Maybe some day I will try to make one which has ALL the Special Locations for all the Official and semi-official Warriors.

Obviously, these are NOT exhaustive, but they do cover most of the official stuff and a little bit of the unofficial as well. If you wish to access the custom rules for the Dwarf Runesmith (by Thecustodian), the School of Martial Arts, and Reputable Drinking Establishments (also by Thecustodian), they are hosted on my Custom Tables page along with Alternate Alehouse Events (by Grogling), Empire Army Camp (by Don Farquhar), and other goodies.

How right you are:

quote:

From the RolePlay Book

The next day he may try to find either the same or a different Special Location again.

This is a perfect example of my mis-remembering the rules (again emoticon).

I was searching for any rule that will allow to find a Fighting School in Village but was unable to find it. In rulebook there is nothing about even trying to find a special location in village - with one exception and that is alehouse. Other rules says:
"Villages therefore, do not have any Special Locations" - so where from is the idea to find Fighting School in a Vilage? Only from the rule that says that you can find in on a score of 6? If yes then it's wrong becouse there is no rule that allows to roll one dice in village for an atempt to find Special Location.

OK I find that rule in FAQ emoticon

Re: settlements

Often we find exceptions to the rules within the specific Warrior's rule book. It might not be spelled out as an exception, it just is. emoticon

The Pit Fighter's rules say "Once per settlement", whereas, they should say "Once per Town or City" if the Fighting School could not be found in a village. I think they should have made it more clear though.

I usually think of it as 1D6 to find anything (both stock rolls AND Special Locations) in a village (2D6 in Town, 3D6 in City). Most Special Locations require 7+ to find (Alehouse being an exception -- you don't really have to find it, just go there), but the Fighting School only requires a 6+ to find it.

But, that is just the way I think of it to keep it straight in my own mind.
