Re: When WHQ Was More Simple: Old Warrior Returning to Official Rules!?

Good question Old Warrior

Im my opinion i think the majority of the original rules are fine. A few tweaks here and there.

But i love all the extra bits that people have created. I use most of them, as i find that with my dice roles and bad luck the wariiors need all the help they can get.

I think when you play solo to many extra rules slows down the dungeon/killing time, but the more extra rules inbetween adventures the better as that was a part of the game i thought needed expanding.

I have all sorts of rules now, and even more in mind.

I have used a copy of the Warhammer World map from the book to show where my old level ten warriors buy there castle's, wizards towers, dwarf breweries when they are not adventuring.

I think the possibilities with WQUEST are endless. Here are some of my projects i have ongoing or thinking about.

Monsters - Getting a model built and painted for each monster in the monster tables. So far not many, but this really is a work in progress.

Rules for warrior settlements as mentioned above and garrisons to help protect them when the warriors are adventuring.

Banks - A place for warriors to store their hard fought cash. There are perils in this though.

A Lizardman/Saurus based character.

But to summerise, keep the dungeon play simple, and expand the hell out of the inbetween adventure time.

I've always had a problem with the Wizard being able to cast spells automatically where as the other Warriors don't get that luxury (except the Druid, which is basically a Jade Wizard)...

I have figured out how to handle this, and am assigning casting numbers to each spell that determine the difficulty to cast. The Wizard will still spend the Power Points as normal but Healing Hands will not ALWAYS go off (and there may be consequences if the Wizard gets Tzeentch's attention).

Yes, speaking of the Druid,Jordan "Greywolf" Peacock was the last guy (in the late 90s) to really flesh out all the colleges of magick, and I've been too lazy to have a go at it myself.

Hey, BassJam, not sure if you have heard recently, but Thecustodian has been working much on the 8 college Wizards. I think he is trying to revise them according to his more recent knowledge of the WHFRP game/Warhammer World. He seems to keep up0 on that stuff, whereas I am still back in the '90s with primarily just the WHQ core books. lol.

Re: When WHQ Was More Simple: Old Warrior Returning to Official Rules!?

Cool. I'm doing the same, but from another direction. Since the hardest part of dealing with wizards is designing and balancing the spells I am starting from there.

I'm creating a grimoire with the casting level and casting numbers of each spell (2 different things for me now) as well as what color of magic it draws from.

Some Petty magic and Battle magic spells are not color specific and all arcane casters will have access. Evil wizards draw upon dhar, Dark magic, which is a stale and muddy mix of all the winds of magic.

Fun fact- I also keep up with changes in the Warhammer world and there is a name for the Wizard of WHQ: Black Magister. So called because they operate outside of the colour colleges.

I figure a grimoire will have the hard part done when it's time to make distinctions such as the difference between a Jade Wizard and a Druid of Albion, or between a Bright Wizard and a Fire Elementalist.

Oh, and then there's the divine spellcasters. I see TheCustodian has been doing a great job with them (such as the Priest of Manaan) so all I'm doing is amending the casting numbers so that I can use 10-siders to cast the spells. And the only reason to do what I'm doing is if you want to use the WFRP rules for gaining the attention of your patron deity (for better or worse).
