Charm spell

Grogling has written the following rule in the Witch character:
quote:

Charm
This spell bestows the Witch with the ability to enter an enemy’s mind and befriend it temporarily.
The target cannot be one of the undead and must not have more hit points than that of the Witch at the time of casting. Once charmed, the creature will be under the control of the Witch and will act as requested. This spell will end if the charmed creature is attacked by the warriors. On the 4th turn and all subsequent turns the creature may try to beat the witch in a battle of wills. Roll 1d6 + Willpower for the witch and 1d6 + Current Hit Points for the Creature. If the enchanted creature gets higher than the witch, it is free from the spell.

I would edit it as follows because I'm not sure why being hurt would make a creature more susceptible to being charmed:

quote:

Charm
This spell bestows the [caster] with the ability to enter an enemy’s mind and befriend it temporarily.
The target cannot be one of the undead and must have an Initiative score of more than 0 or it cannot be charmed. Once charmed, the creature will be under the control of the [caster] and will act as requested. This spell will end if the charmed creature is attacked by the warriors. On the 4th turn and all subsequent turns the creature may try to beat the witch in a battle of wills. Roll 1d6 + Battle-Level + Willpower for the witch and 1d6 + Monster-Table-level + Initiative for the Creature. If the enchanted creature gets higher than the witch, it is free from the spell.

What do you guys think? My reasoning is also that Dark Elves and Elves should be highly resistant to charm spells and they have high Initiative, where duller-witted creatures might be easier to keep under control.

Also, should there be a limit to how many creatures are charmed? Should there be a mana upkeep? I ask because I would like to use this spell for more than one class.

Re: Charm spell

Hello, BassJam.

I think your revision is generally very good.

However, I think the Hit Points part of the description (original version) was probably intended to prevent the Witch from taking control of certain monsters which could very much knock a combat out of balance (in favour of the Warriors of course!). Just imagine, for example, arriving in the Objective Room and the level-one Witch charms the only Minotaur in the room! But, the original version would prevent this unless the Witch somehow acquired an ungodly amount of extra Wounds without leveling up!

On the other hand, I can see your point... In the same example I give above, a Dwarf could severely wound the Mino and then the Witch would be able to charm it. This seems to logically contradict the idea that once charmed, the monster should not be attacked by the Warriors (until they are ready to fight it at least...) in order to keep it under her spell. A wounded monsters would certainly seem less likely to succomb to any type of charm. It would be in a very bad mood! emoticon
