Lord of Aenarion

Hi guys,

Thinking of starting one of these characters off, but thee seem to be a few bits missing from the GW rules set such as what treasure/equipment he can use? Have I missed something?

Any thoughts?

No, you haven't missed anything.

In Deathblow #3 the Lord of Aenarion article does not specify what weapons or armour he can use nor what treasures he may utilize.

I imagine that the Lord of Aenarion can use any item that the Elf can use.

I've already started a revision on this one, although i haven't play-tested him enough to really change anything. But some simple clarifications, such as the one you brought up, would be helpful.

Keep us posted on your experience with him as you play.

The article actually states the Lord of Aenarion carries a Great Sword (+1S but no shield allowed) and wears Phoenix Armour (+2T).
I also see no detail regarding allowed treasure etc, but as he can visit Weaponsmith, Animal Trader, Armourer and General Store as well as the Elven Quarter of course, I think it is safe to assume he is treat the same as the Elf

Re: Lord of Aenarion

Peter Haresnape wrote his own version of the Lord of Aenarion in April 2004 and in it he decided:

Lords of Aenarion and Equipment
The Lord of Aenarion will never use any ranged weapon, but can use any hand-to-hand weapon the Barbarian and Elf may use. He may use any type of sword, and does not suffer negative modifiers to his to hit roll when doing so if he uses them double-handed (i.e. cannot carry a shield). As for armour, his Phoenix Armour is all encompassing, and can be replaced by the Elven Mastercraftsmen for 1D6x200 gold.

So how did the Lord of Aenarion work out for you?

Here's my experience when I got a chance to play Peter Haresnape’s Lord of Aenarion, found here –
[sign in to see URL]%20of%20Aenarion%20Edited%20by%20Peter%[sign in to see URL]

While I really liked the idea and class, we ended up changing some of his stuff –

Changes
Starting out –
. Gear: Great Sword, which adds +1 to his Strength when fighting
Changed to a Long Sword with normal stats to bring more into line with other starting warrior powers. Plus the stats here are completely wrong for a Great Sword (STR+4 damage.)

. Stats: Changed Attacks from 2 down to 1 to bring back into normal warrior power. I believe the reason the Lord of Aenarion was given 2 Attacks was because the great sword has a -1 attack modifier. Which is then modified by the change here -

Original -
The Lord of Aenarion will never use any ranged weapon, but can use any hand-to-hand weapon the Barbarian and Elf may use. He may use any type of sword, and does not suffer negative modifiers to his to hit roll when doing so if he uses them double-handed (i.e. cannot carry a shield).

Changed to –
The Lord of Aenarion will never use any ranged weapon, and can only use swords that the Barbarian and Elf may use. While using any type of sword he does not suffer any of the negative modifiers the different types of swords might have. The Lord of Aenarion can not use a shield but can use any elf Armor.

This makes the Lord a feared opponent once he’s able to pick up a great sword which is their preferred weapon of choice. This is balanced out by the lack of magical great swords found as treasure.

Tables
Really loved the tables found here. Some of the entries are opened to interpretation of the readers.

 Blood Pool & the Curse
FUN!!!

Leveling & Training –
Some confusion, minor, on how many training rolls and where to make them at. Ended up making just the number of training rolls on the level/training table. Ie. 2nd level you make 3 rolls, 3rd level you make 4 rolls. Of which at least one of the rolls has to be on the profile table.

Some things to watch out for –
Got my Lord of Aenarion up to 5th level before he opened up the wrong door (2 Chaos Sorcerers and a mass of Chaos Warriors will bring a sad day to a party. Then another 1 rolled for power during the second combat phase which then had a squad of chaos dwarves showing up ended any chance we might have had.) During his leveling he ended up with 5 attacks per round but only has 2D6+1D3+5 wounds (Total of 19).

Over all a very fun class to play and a great role-playing experience in town.
