Take a peak at the Imperial Vault (shameless plug), my mate wrote some rules for Gnoblars, Ogre Bulls, Leadbelchers and Iron Guts. In Warhammer, models have a Leadership characteristic. A typical human has Ld 7, an Elf 8 and a Dwarf 9. A Banshee rolls 2d6+2, and for every point that it beats the target regiment's highest Leadership by, the regiment suffers 1 Wound (usually incurring one fatality in humanoid infantry and cavalry). I think it used to be the case that regiments with the Immune to Psychology were immune to this affect, but I don't think that's in the latest rules. How about something similar using the Warrior's WP characteristic? This stat never gets used! The Warrior makes an WP test (1d6+WP), quite hard (8+ to pass). For each point they fail the test by they suffer one Wound with no modifiers. This could even affect all Warriors on the board section. What do you think? WP stats tend not to rise too much, so the banshee would be quite challenging to all levels, and all Warrior types.nondisclosed_email@example.com (QuestingKnight)Mon, 03 Oct 2011 20:19:06 +0000 Re: Bansheehttps://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p561157,from=rss#post561157https://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p561157,from=rss#post561157quote:and truthfully no one likes insta-death effects. Essentially its the same as a "real world banshee" its just that the power of the wail is so terrifying it can cause one's death, thus the damage from the wail. I've decided to scale back the banshee a bit after a quick playtest last night, I'm going with the following for the ghostly howl 2-3: Chill 3 attack 4-6: Chill 2 attack 7-9: Chill 1 attack 10-12: Warrior is -1 to hit on their next turn Bit less deadly, and truthfully no one likes insta-death effects.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Amazing Larry)Sat, 01 Oct 2011 02:55:02 +0000 Re: Bansheehttps://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p561153,from=rss#post561153https://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p561153,from=rss#post561153How are Banshees handled in Warhammer? I thought in regular lore a Banshee howl was more of a Terror attack. That would forcast someone's death. Sort of like this ability - Banshee Howl: Targets random warrior. That Warrior must make a Terror 8 Check or be suffer the effects of Terror for next turn and be at +2 to hit this turn due to being frozen in Terror. Now, this probably doesn't fit into Warhammer Lore, but does sort of fit into real world lore.nondisclosed_email@example.com (lord mavik)Sat, 01 Oct 2011 01:56:47 +0000 Re: Bansheehttps://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p561148,from=rss#post561148https://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p561148,from=rss#post561148Here's what i had introduced at Level 5: BANSHEES Deathly Howl Each Warrior on the Board Section must roll 1D6 and add their Willpower. If the score is 8+ the Warrior suffers 1D6 Wounds with no modifiers for anything. If the score is less than 8, roll another 1D6 on the table below: 1 The wail of the Banshee echoes loudly through the Warrior’s head and blood immediately begins to pour from his eyes and ears. The Warrior loses 1D3 Starting Wounds permanently and may not attack during the next Warriors’ Phase. 2-3 The Warrior covers his ears as the screech of the Banshee reverberates throughout the dungeon. The Warrior is -1 Attack during the next Warriors’ Phase. 3-4 The deathly cry of the creature penetrates deep into the Warrior’s soul. The Warrior must deduct -1 from their Willpower. If the Warrior’s Willpower ever reaches zero, the Warrior is dead and removed from the game. If the Banshee is killed, the Warrior’s Willpower reverts to normal. 5-6 The Warrior is unaffected by the creature this turn. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Littlemonk)Fri, 30 Sep 2011 00:40:41 +0000 Re: Bansheehttps://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p561147,from=rss#post561147https://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p561147,from=rss#post561147Love the idea of stat'ing out newer monsters (who's gonna tackle Ogre Kingdoms?) I am a sucker for their style, and no one does plastic minis on such a wide scale and with such quality as they do. I had thought of making the howl chart a bit easier at first, something like: 2: Drop dead. 3-4: Chill 3 5-7: Chill 2 8-9: Chill 1 10-12: Avoids effect. However, seeing as I'm a bit of a bastard at heart, I enjoy ruthless monsters for us to run into. Yes she is able to howl while a warrior is adjacent to her. I did want to avoid using an Initiative test for her attack, as the howl is very much a powerful attack that cuts right to the soul. Avoiding it is not really an option. I may bump her up to a level 7 encounter, or make her a single monster at levels 5-6.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Amazing Larry)Thu, 29 Sep 2011 23:41:43 +0000 Re: Bansheehttps://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p561145,from=rss#post561145https://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p561145,from=rss#post561145Question: Will she still be able to do her special attack when Warriors are adjacent to her? Comments: Wow! she is very scary! I think it might be good if there is some chance a Warrior escapes harm from the attack. If you were to keep the same special attack 2D6 table and maybe make it a 33% chance that a Warrior avoided being his by it -- like roll 1D6 for each Warrior, on 5+ they avoid the attack, OR 'the attack misses them'. Otherwise, I am afraid it might be too powerful, especially if she appears with other 'instant-death' type monsters. Of course, another way to introduce a chance of failure would be to adjust the table and add a failure entry. Then too, if the 'failure to harm' result were instead a negative effect (like the Warrior suffers -1 to hit for one turn, or even -1 Attack) maybe that would be more appropriate. I am not really familiar with Banshees in the Warhammer World. So, my comments are only from the perspective of game balance and/or game mechanics.nondisclosed_email@example.com (OldWarrior)Thu, 29 Sep 2011 23:10:49 +0000 Re: Bansheehttps://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p561144,from=rss#post561144https://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p561144,from=rss#post561144You gave GW money???nondisclosed_email@example.com (Littlemonk)Thu, 29 Sep 2011 16:09:56 +0000 Bansheehttps://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p561143,from=rss#post561143https://bwarhammerquest.runboard.com/p561143,from=rss#post561143I picked up the fantastic new Banshee miniature from GW, and I've been fooling around with rules for a Banshee in WHQ. So far I've just given her identical stats as a Wraith, but with a special attack instead of 2 attacks. Her attack is as follows: Ghostly Howl: Each monster phase every warrior on the board rolls 2D6: 2: The warrior drops dead of shock. 3: The warrior suffers a Chill 3 attack. 4-8: The warrior suffers a Chill 2 attack. 9-12: The warrior suffers a Chill 1 attack. A Banshee would obviously be a single monster to an encounter, typically with a group of ghosts, wights, or wraiths, perhaps accompanying a Vampire. I'm thinking she would be found on dungeon levels 5 or 6 right through to 10. Her special attack completely replaces any physical attacks, she is placed as a ranged monster, and only uses her howl attack. Questions, comments?nondisclosed_email@example.com (Amazing Larry)Thu, 29 Sep 2011 15:06:25 +0000
