Posting Suggestions & Rules

Posting Suggestions: Searching the Warhammer Quest Forums -- While it is good to search for specific things which interest you, and to post in reply to them, feel free to post your questions or comments as new topics regardless of whether they have been addressed before. This community is friendly to visitors!

When using the Search feature here, the text you enter is matched only to the Subject line of the posts. So, when posting, please try to include some descriptive/unique text in the Subject line to help others be able to find the topic in the future.

For example, a topic with the Subject line Questions... which asks specific questions about the Witch Hunter character would be better to include the words Witch Hunter in the subject line -- maybe "Questions about the Witch Hunter", or "Witch Hunter Questions".

By the way, some Internet search engines might allow you to find more within the Runboard forums (the body text of posts) than the Runboard Search feature. The drawback is that you get everything else on the net as well. I have not fully tested this though.

Posting Suggestions: Specific Forums

Since more forums have been added to help organize the various discussions/posts, it seemed wise to include some suggestions for posting. Below are some suggestions for where to post what you want to talk about. First the specific forum is named and then the suggestion(s) for what to post there. When posting some things might seem to fit in more than one forum. In such a case, just try to pick the one that seems most appropriate.

Note that many discussions will be moved to the appropriate forums to help make this message board more useful to all visitors.

Reading and posting links are added for your convenience.

General Discussion (read) (post)

If you just want to chat about the weather or discuss the game in general, or talk about other games, then this is probably the best forum for that. However, please see the Spam section below.

This is a great place to introduce yourself too: General Discussion: Introductions Please

Game Rules (read) (post)

Questions and discussions of the Warhammer Quest rules (think Rule Book and RolePlay Book). The place to discuss almost anything related to the official game play rules except specific Warrior issues.

Warriors (read) (post)

Discussions and questions concerning official, semi-official, and custom Warriors.

Custom Rules and Projects (read) (post)

Aha! Now, we can see them all listed here. I mean all those house rules, special custom projects and etc... While some discussion of custom things might be appropriate in the Game Rules forum, this is a better forum to share one's 'completed' works. Individual Custom Warriors (or even groups/collections of them) might be better to be posted in the Warriors forum.

Models, Painting, and Dungeon Environment (read) (post)

Discuss model/painting hobby or share special dungeon materials. Feel free to post images of your work here. Discussing new and old models/figurines that can be used in the game is good to do here too. Want to give some advice on painting, or a source? Yup, this is the spot!

Tales from the Warhammer World (read) (post)

Visit this forum to share your session reports and game-related stories, and discuss books related to the game (or at least related to the Warhammer World).

Warhammer Quest Websites and Sources (read) (post)

This is an excellent place to announce new and old sites related to Warhammer Quest and to discuss sources for adventures, name generators, general role-play gaming helps, and etc...

Posting Rules

Well, this message board has seemed to run rather well without any firm rules for a long time. The following four rules are meant to be helpful AND to help keep anyone from getting into trouble.

1. Language -- since this community is made up of people of various ages and religious persuasions (for example, OldWarrior is a Christian and a minister emoticon ), please refrain from using foul language. Remember that members as young as 13 years of age may freely roam here. Also, it would be nice if some parents could share this site with their young Warriors. emoticon

2. Intellectual Property Policy -- while it is NOT this board's policy per se it IS a legal matter and Runboard strives to remind us not to do anything illegal. emoticon So, this is a reminder that Games Workshop has a rather specific Intellectual Property Policy.

While we might not know exactly to what extent copyright laws can and will be enforced, it is in this board's best interest to respect Games Workshop's ownership of the official Warhammer Quest materials and not to violate their IP policy.

Please be advised that any flagrant disregard of Games Workshop's IP policy is definitely not allowed. Simply put, this means that the official Warhammer Quest materials should NOT be freely and publicly made available in any form without Games Workshop's express permission (which so far has NOT been given). So, this message board should NOT be used for such a purpose.

As this relates to custom rules, custom Warriors, and other custom documents, there does not seem to be any problem with freely sharing these things as long as any official materials needed to play the game are NOT included with such custom materials.

3. SPAM --

3. a. Most posts which are totally unrelated to Warhammer Quest or similar gaming, will be considered spam.

3. b. Any post directly advertising something for sale will normally be considered spam even if advertising Warhammer Quest materials for sale. A classic example of spam is for a ebay seller to just show up here and advertise one of more of his/her current listings.

3. c. Answering a member's question to help them find something they are looking for would NOT be spam.

3. d. A Possible Exception to the spam rule: Established members (long term and proven to have serious interest in this board's purpose{s}) could post some non-invasive, non-commercial things which are not strictly pertinent to Warhammer Quest. For example, longterm member (with 50 posts) posts a comment about the current weather where he/she lives. While this is not related to Warhammer Quest, it IS related to one of this board's established members. Such posts should normally be made in the General Discussion forum.

3. e. Topics and posts considered to be SPAM will be deleted. They have been generally ignored by the members as an ongoing practice.

4. Playing Nice -- Everyone who posts here should be respectful of others. Expressing ideas and even opposing ideas is acceptable, but attacking other members, being very confrontational, and otherwise detracting from a pleasant and relaxed environment is unacceptable behavior.

5. Banning of Members -- The Admin reserves the right to ban any member as needed -- in the admin's sole judgment. If you have been banned, please feel free to send a PM (private message) to the admin to discuss the matter. Reasons for being banned may include, but are not limited to, the breaking of any of the boards rules (as outlined above) or breaking the Runboard user agreement. The Admin also reserves the right to ban a member indefinitely or for a limited amount of time (probably 30 days will be the usual limit).

Banning just prevents the member from posting to the board, but they can still visit and read.

EDIT: added the one about spam! emoticon Board members, feel free to make suggestions for better wording of this ruling on spam. This is new to me. I came up with this based upon how members have responded to spam in the past and/or what board members have previously considered spam. I am deleting all such clearly spam posts as I sort through the entire original WQ forum.

EDIT #2: added rule #4

EDIT #3: added notice (rule #5) about banning.

Re: Posting Suggestions & Rules

Well now, I feel a little silly, but after posting the 'rules' above -- especially concerning SPAM -- I came across an admin response to an ebay seller here long ago.

quote:

Andrew wrote:

Yes, posting of ebay links is allowed. Thanks for posting, and welcome to the WQ message board!

Original topic: WH Quest Items I'm Selling on eBay

I thought in general that the members here did NOT want those kinds of 'spam' posts. That is why I included that prohibition in the rules -- and deleted several such posts as well! Now, I wonder if it is just some don't like to see them.

I have an idea that not everyone who visits here also visits ebay every day. emoticon So, maybe some would be glad to hear about Warhammer Quest things popping up on ebay.

Anyone have any thoughts to share on this?

Re: Posting Suggestions & Rules

In my opinion, that type of spam can get out of control. And most people who spam WHQ auctions only come on here to do just that (and are not contributing members in any other way).

(BoardgameGeek has a page for trading missing parts of games, BTW, and most members will give you pieces for free as long as you pay the shipping!)

If i want to see auctions for WHQ, i go to eBay.

When i want to see contributions and discuss WHQ, i come here...

I'd rather see people 'trading' or privately selling WHQ items on here than trying to get community members to run up bids on eBay.

Re: Posting Suggestions & Rules

Rule #4 added.

This board has been very informal, and for the most part, a very peaceful and agreeable place to visit. Let's keep it that way.

However, I fully intend NOT to add a bunch of rules and legal jargon to this board. I think that Runboard itself covers some of these types of things. We are just here to have fun, discussing a well-loved and much-played game.

Re: Posting Suggestions & Rules

Added rule #5 about Banning of Members -- a notice really.

EDIT: I also closed this topic -- same as locking a topic -- to give the impression that the rules (and notice about banning) are not a normal discussion type of topic. emoticon

However, any member may start another topic as needed for any public comments they wish to make about the rules and etc -- just don't break the rules while doing so. emoticon
