A new kinda quest.

I was thinking today about playing this game more as a free for all survival game but with all the same game mechanics just tweaked a little. I'm going to throw some ideas out so you can tell me what you think.. I don't really know what would be the victory condition at this point maybe kill the boss, find the key, or last one alive?. Also how the dungeon should be dealt with the normal draw or preset?.
I'm on the fly here so these are my first thoughts.

1st thought.. everyone starts with the same states with zero skills but has the ability to find or buy skills, treasure cards, treasure chests, magic, maybe levels.

2nd thought.. Power phase would be rolled for every player so the event cards would need to be toned down a bit. Events would be triggered on 1's like normal but a 6 will trigger an event to be placed by the player on any other player/players or tile/tiles.

3rd thought.. if the objective is to find something and get out or kill something maybe it could be shuffled into the bottom half of the event deck like the dungeon deck in a normal game.

4th.. no killing anyone that's not a monster until the final objective is met or found to stop early blood shed.

feel free to add ideas if this sounds good or just to tell me on how and why this is a horrible idea. emoticon
I wouldn't be amazed if this idea is already out somewhere. Munchkin emoticon

I have a few thoughts for the moment.

It has sort of been tried I think, but it requires some serious tweaking.

If you do the separate Unexpected Events, then I recommend dividing the number of monsters by 4. Larger or tougher monsters -- especially thinking of the Minotaur at this point, might need to be left out, since one Minotaur is often plenty of challenge for FOUR Warriors, not to mention one! emoticon

I like idea of prohibiting attacking one another until a certain point in the quest/objective.

The map/dungeon: Maybe set it up from the beginning, complete, with four entrances and four paths leading to the central objective. BUT, this assumes you might not necessarily want to let the Warriors help one another towards the objective.

Ah, I have heard of it, but have not been really acquainted with it -- never played it yet.

Yes from looking at the pics of it it does look the part but is it WHQ survival?..I do not think so emoticon

I do understand the multiple entrances but I believe that way will take out the fun from the beginning since for a bit you'll just be fighting alone. As I see it right of the bat people will be trying to get away from each other or some will stick together. To brring some dungeon survival spirit to the game maybe we add one or two small rules to bring some flavor for the evil players like "Push"..push a warrior into an adjacent square
"Trip"..hmmm knock a warrior down that's moving through an adjacent square or something like that.

[sign in to see URL]'m thinking more on the lines of new cards for this though as i think about this four warriors in the same room only spawning like 2 goblins and so forth would be very weak so i guess there would be some kind of chart for how many warriors are in the room with the one who rolled a 1 for the power phase.
Minotaurs... it wouldn't be a WHQ dungeon without atleast one.

If you want to make actual custom cards, the My Messed Up Mind site might be useful to you.

Re: A new kinda quest.

Well, from what I have seen of DungeonQuest on Boardgame Geek, it definitely looks interesting. I would like to play it myself.

I do not think it should be considered WHQ with a twist though.

To play WHQ in a way that is somewhat similar to DungeonQuest -- I think that is probably more what mearl8252 is trying to do. His idea seems more like WHQ (or to lean more in that direction) than DungeonQuest actually.

mearl8252, if you do develop rules for this idea, I for one would be glad to know what they are and how well they work.

I checked that site out awhile back when I was going to make my WHQ from scratch but got lucky and found one cheap. I was looking into using this site to make the cards
[sign in to see URL]
combined with messed up mind and the 400mb of WHQ downloads I got. The site has a cool sample section to download any of your pictures plus they do large sets of cards like 234 all with different fronts and backs you just have to resize the pictures.
I'm probably missing something it just seems to easy.

As long as people show interest I might keep it going but my mind wonders and I'm on to the next idea so...

Added a new rule to my 2nd thought on the first post.
To make the game even more none teamish I've added another rule for the power phase. When a player rolls a 6 in the power phase they spawn an event but choose a player(s) or tile(s) to play it on.
Sound good? any noticeable problems?
