Do Items create an aura of effect?

So, in part 100 of my endless postings for rules clarifications, I am going to tackle the issue of item effects, specifically for the Chaos Warrior. Although, this can apply to any warrior with the magic items in the game.

My Chaos Warrior has a chaos artifact that grants him 5+ magic resistance. Do I get that magic resistance only if I use that specific weapon or does it cast an aura of magic resistance that I receive only if I use it?

Re: Do Items create an aura of effect?

I tried to answer this yesterday and lost my connection before it posted -- was on my iPad in a restaurant.

I will answer with a question to get you thinking in what I think is the right direction: Do you think that any Warrior should be able to get any and all magical effects for any weapon in their backpack (not currently equipped)?

So, I think this question is answered indirectly in the rules just by the mere requirement of having to have a weapon equipped or armour worn in order to gain any protect or offensive benefits from them.

The simple answer is No, magic items, unless otherwise stated in their description, do not have some sort of aura that allows them to work even when they are not equipped.

Some items, on the other hand, are kept in one's backpack and used by choice, like throwing a Firebomb (just using this item to show the type of usage I mean, not to say that Firebomb is magical), but I think they are evident by their description. These types of items are usually limited in their number of uses -- like once per adventure, or even single use, or have a certain number of charges.

Specially related to the Chaos Warrior, we see that his rules offer him a way to combine like Artefacts with a chance of losing them as well. If his Chaos Artefacts worked for him even when not equipped, then what would be the purpose of combing them? So, I think again that this answers the question similarly as above, No. emoticon

Things like talismans, rings and other items meant to adorn the body have areas of effect.
Items meant to be held/used, like a weapon or a shield and so forth, must be in active use to have their effects in action.
Yes?
