More than 4 Heroes? How?

Hi there,

how do handle a warhammerquest session ONLY with the expansionsets (LAIR and CATACOMBS), if there are 5 or 6 Heroes in the party? I don.t talk about the RPG-or Gamemasterversion (no tables, only the basic Eventcards). Only the heroes versus the game.

Have you houserules for the monsters appearing? Are the Monsters stronger or do they have new skills? Do you use selfmade eventscards? Or do you use a own mechanism?

if I'm honest I don't think it works very well.
the standard rule is if you add a warrior you increase the monsters who show up by 25% for one warrior and 50% for two.

but the board section sizes make this an issue, the game board sections are perfect for 4 warriors plus monsters: the rooms are 16 squares and normally the most monsters from an encounter is 12 which handily fits all 16 models.

I also find that, with the exception of level 1, the extra warrior is worth more than 25% more monsters: I usually increase them by 50%.

but sticking to 4 warriors is just flat out better in my experience.
(occasionally warriors get killed because that 5th warrior is just in the way)

I did use advanced heroquest rooms at one stage which were 5x5 and 5x10 (I think) to play with 5-6 players and this worked reasonably well

most of my posts may run into essay length. I find that for a lot of queries/feedback context is important and that is why this happens more often than not.

have a great day :D

Re: More than 4 Heroes? How?

I have not played with more than four Warriors at a time.
I have had persons they need to escort during the adventure, but these were not combatants.

No need for houserules or anything else made up.
The character packs have rules for more than 4 Warriors.
They simply read as follows from the Trollslayer's booklet:
BIGGER GROUPS OF WARRIORS
If you want to, you can take more than four Warriors on an adventure, adding the Trollslayer to the standard group of Warriors. If you do this, you will have to make sure that there are enough Monsters to go round! The cards and tables from the Warhammer Quest game are based on there being four Warriors, and if you have fifteen different Warriors in the party, then the game as it stands will present no challenge at all! As a general rule, stick to parties of four Warriors. but if you have a party of five or six. then increase the number of Monsters by an equal proportion.

For example, if you have six Warriors in the party, this is 50% more Warriors than the Event cards are set up to deal with. In this case, you should make sure that each time any Monsters appear, there are 50% more of them. If the card says "1D6 Orcs". roll the dice as usual and then multiply the result upwards to match the party size - so a dice roll of 4 Orcs would become 6 Orcs for a party of six Warriors, for example.

So there you are.

I see Edquest's issue as far as the board size and more stuff.
Easy solution though.
Play on other tiles.
Lots of 2d tile sets out there.
Some with better graphics than GW bothered to make.
Try those out for larger adventure parties.
I use tiles from Skeleton Key, Paizo, Lord Zsezse Works and Heroic Maps to name quickly only four of several companies' mapping I use.
