ah, I have lair of the orc lord, but do not have catacombs of terror (which is a shame as undead are my favourite).

I use the monster tables straight from the book.
I've used the orc lord tables but I found them lacking compared to the main book and at the higher levels (4-5) they were significantly weaker.

this group has had some of the worst luck I've had before except for actually surviving the experience!
we've had numerous dungeons which we've had to flee from, been wiped out entirely, had one player die, had three players die and repeatedly had to go straight to the next adventure without being able to re-supply.

it's weird.

okay so session went a bit weird...

entered the flames of Khazla room section, the wards rose and a troll appeared to fight the troll [sign in to see URL]?

it was defeated in two rounds, the troll slayer opened the door and revealed another room.

we healed her before she went through.
the rune smith entered the flames room, a black orc appeared. in the next room no less than 3 trolls appeared, leaving the slayer in a spot of bother to say the least!

the rune smith killed the black orc quickly, thankfully, the troll slayer and rune smith killed one troll in one turn also.

the elf enters the flames and a dwarf blunderbuss monster appears, could be worse!

the trolls meanwhile are rolling max to hit and damage on the slayer every round, luckily my characters healing spell can heal anyone on the board and not just on the same board section so we keep it together.

elf kills blunderbuss, enters room with trolls and I enter flames. a chaos warrior appears, I have WS3, +1 to hit but only strength 3 so this could take a while.
(on the plus point I have 23 wounds and Toughness of 5 so I won't be killed to quickly either)

roll of [sign in to see URL] now have basically no power, the warriors are joined by 3 minotaurs and an ogre, plus the remaining troll.

I eventually kill the chaos warrior, takes me 3 rounds until a 6 is rolled. we kill all the baddies and get money.

move on and find a spiral staircase down, we bypass that to continue the dungeon and hope not to have to descend: last time we did that 4 mummies showed up and killed one of us.

eventually find the end of the dungeon, but the second board section was a T junction so we go back that way.

there follows the world of unlucky 1 rolls in the power phase, horrible events and traps including:
room descends due to some mechanical contrivance: all monsters are 1 level higher than usual
continual hail of darts trap: take 1D6 darts every power phase while in this room, each dart deals 1 wound with the total being modified as normal.
lost: add D6 cards to the dungeon.

we burned through so much luck avoiding this that the alarm trap was consider a "lucky escape". for the next 3 dungeon cards monsters have Ambush 5+ (or +2 to an existing ability) and 6's rolled in power phase cause monsters to appear.

we enter a room and find 8 plague bearers, power phase is then a 1 and 5 flamers of tzeentch show up. they successfully ambush us and roll 21 damage on 5D6, dropping everyone to 2-8 wounds each when we were all at maximum.

now we have an issue: if plague bearers drop you to 0 wounds you lose a permanent Toughness, so we heal before the monsters turn (having dropped and firestorm icon and quake scroll on the flamers, taking 4 of them out)

we luck out, the plague bearers are ineffective and we wipe them out.

then we have another disastrous series of turns and the game is on pause for another 2 weeks. we are still in the same room, rolled a 6 so monsters have shown up. rolled a 66 and chaos dwarf sorcerer with 8 blunderbuss bodyguards have come with 8 chaos dwarf axe men and 3 bull centaurs.

the one saving grace is the sorcerer has to appear first with his guards, as such they will be in the room, the warriors and bull centaurs will all appear outside the room, where they will struggle to be effective in combat.

don't get me wrong: we're still a bit deep in the WHQ trouble pit (6's still reveal monsters, all monsters have Ambush 5+, we are still mostly heavily wounded) and we will still likely have to descend the stairs to assault a level 4 Objective room...
but I think we'll survive this particular combat.

so the chaos dwarfs showed up, we slew the sorcerer, most of the blunderbusses and two of the three bull centaurs on the first turn.

the fighting went on for a while, the dwarf high wounds, toughness and armour meant that while they were not a threat they were taking too long to kill.

then a 6 was rolled and more monsters showed up: trolls. then bloodletters, beastmen and a minotaur. then 2 mummies, then 7 chaos warriors.
this went on for a while, luckily mostly due to rolling 6's in the power phase rather than 1's which was good.

we found a heap of treasure items, some of which were even useful, used quite a lot of emergency healing items (potions, scrolls and the like) and are now one room further into the dungeon!!

oh and a trap swung a spiked rock slab onto the troll slayer, pinning her to the wall while the rest of us were up to the knees in water (-1 to hit and -1 to pinning rolls) and a flash trap went off blinding the slayer and then monsters showed up to give us [sign in to see URL] killed them pretty quickly, can't now remember what they were, think it was two trolls(?)

we have survived so far and on the last dungeon tile of "monsters on a 6 in power phase" and that is a collapsed passage, which could be good or bad depending on what shows up...
after that there are 2 more dungeon cards, if the last one is not the objective room we have to backtrack and go down the spiral staircase and face a few dungeon cards where all enemies are one level higher...

the session started with the slayer still pinned to a wall by a trap and the corridor running with knee deep water giving -1 on pinning and to hit rolls to warriors (but not monsters who are used to it)

rolled a 1, obviously, 7 orcs and an orc Boss. said orc Boss decided starting next to the slayer was the best choice ever.
it wasn't, he was almost dead by the time the slayer finished her turn (reaction strike and 2 attacks plus a killer blow attack!)

the rest beat on one of us a bit but we survived and next turn killed the rest.

we finally freed the slayer from the trap and moved on.
the collapsed corridor featured no 1's or 6's in the power phase and we made it into a room. no more monsters on a 6!

in the room two events happened and a trap (magnetised walls meaning warriors next to walls using metal containing weapons have -2 to [sign in to see URL] monsters showed up thankfully, we were all next to walls!)

then we found an extra objective room. opened the original door, corridor. not our objective room.
decided as we're hale and hearty, fully healed and lots of resources, we'd do the extra objective room.
whoops. rolled a 1 for the contents of the room: gorgon, 3 juggernauts of Khorne and riders, 3 trolls.
yay!

this was a long fight, we managed to avoid rolling 1's for such a very very long time, the juggernauts were a nightmare due to their combined toughness and armour even though 2 of us ignore their armour due to magic weapons/runes.
the gorgon was pointless, WS2 versus a WS5 elf, who passed fear roll on a 6, meant it hit the elf once in the whole fight.
admittedly that one hit hurt a lot, the elf rolled a 1 once and took the hit, next time used a luck (why is it always the first attack this happens on?!).

when the 1 eventually was rolled we lucked it and avoided it. in the end, down about 6 potions and a couple of luck, we triumphed and slew them all. one of us got an objective room item (wand of [sign in to see URL] be used)
now we have to retrace our steps and go down the spiral staircase to the real objective room and all monsters down there are 1 level higher.

we might get lucky and only have 2 rolls on the level 4 table.
we might get unlucky like the last one and get one roll on levels 6, 5 and 4...
lets hope not!!

we retraced our steps through the dungeon, not a single 1 was rolled.
we made it down the stairs, to the objective room and entered.
the roll came: two rolls on the dungeon level 1 level higher than us.
but we've gone down the spiral staircase so the enemies are now 2 levels higher...
...
plus the adventurers guild event gives us one enemy worth the most gold as an additional monster and it is the level 5 table.
so a cockatrice shows up, worth double gold if my character kills it.
the rolls reveal 3 wraiths, 2 ghosts and 4 wights and the second roll 3 trolls and 3 stone trolls.
a few turns of hacking away and doing okay, then the cockatrice dies, a pit of despair scroll is used and manages to kill 3 of the enemies (troll, wight and wraith).
then our luck turns and a wraith drops the slayer instantly killing her (damn you Chill special ability) and the rest of us attempt to flee.
the roll on the escaping table leaves 2 warriors tripped in the doorway and one of us takes no damage but ends up in the depths of the dungeon with a +1 to their next roll.

a luck is used on the tripped in doorway, leaving the elf there as the most likely one to survive.
the runesmith makes it out after taking 1D6 unmodified [sign in to see URL] has 6 [sign in to see URL] a 3! survivor!
the elf survives with no damage taken (mostly due to monster placement, good dodge rolls, elf shield and armour)
then rolls power phase: a 1! 4 mummies show up, rolls on escaping table and trips in the next doorway!
survives the mummies attacks, has 6 wounds, their tomb rot Fatal damage does 6 damage, elf dies.
the witch doctor rolls again with +1 to the roll, again takes 2D6 modified as normal which ends up being zero wounds for the second time.
rolls with a now +2 bonus, total 11, has 6 [sign in to see URL] 1D6 with no [sign in to see URL] a 6 and dies.

so we have a runesmith surviving with around 11,000 gold and will be creating a new trio of warriors for the new year.
not decided what i'm going to play just yet.

new party has formed plus the old surviving dwarf rune priest.
starting at level 2 but playing a level 1 dungeon for reasons discussed in other threads, intention was to spend money from rune smith in town to equip us a little.

however the town he found was gripped by plague and he had no luck so decided not to risk it!

apparently healing is needed (!) so we have:
barbarian, I am playtesting my berserk rules change and other minor tweaks.
plus I like the idea of having someone with no armour limitations.
I rolled shield block skill: once per adventure per rank I can ignore a blow by taking it on the shield as long as I have one, if berserk I can use it without a shield (which is nice as I don't currently have one)

an elf ranger mage (hoping it will turn to knight later) managed to get Reaction Strike skill which is nice.

warrior priest of Shallya this is a homebrewed priestess who revolves around healing well, denying monsters their attacks and even re-directing them onto other monsters, however lack of equipment again hindered this character to a degree.

we entered the dungeon following the pacifist priestess, obviously!
3 dungeon tiles later we were doomed and decided rather than re-roll all the warriors again to just start the dungeon again and pretend none of this happened.
(this is because our level 3 warrior got stuck at the back behind two new warriors and 6 daemonettes of Slaanesh* showed up along with 3 minotaurs (2 Unexpected Events in a row revealing monsters!)
the new warriors all have only 1 attack each and no magic weapons so were looking at 6's to hit the enemies.

the second try waltzed into the objective room, thanks to a T junction and going the correct way, the enemies were a mere 12 ghouls and 3 minotaurs which were a bit of a walk to be honest.
just got to do the travel next session.
we still have no magic weapons for some of us which will be a problem I think but we'll just have to get over it!

*I use the variant when there are warriors of differing levels of randomising a warrior and the monsters that show up are of their level, for this one we rolled 3 minotaurs on the level 1 table and 6 daemonettes on the level 3 table.

got to city pretty easily, bought some stuff but not all the bits we wanted (no light armour for barbarian, no wizards staff for ranger mage, no funky new weapons for the priestess of Shallya and the dwarf runesmith got no weapon rune)

dungeon has 3 dark secrets none of which are drawbacks really:
dwarf has a secret map which will provide a room if we are at a dead end.
barbarian got some tips on fighting fearsome foes: +1 to fear and terror rolls for this dungeon.
elf ranger has a secret vendetta against the barbarian and wants to beat him at a random [sign in to see URL] rolls!
on turns he beats the barbarian by succeeding at more of them he gets +1 attack the next turn, if he is beaten by the barbarian he has -1 on to hit rolls instead.

if at the end of the dungeon he is winning he points this out to the barbarian who has to hand over 1000 gold, he is winning currently (obviously as his Pin is 3+ versus the barbarians 6+!)

dungeon has been 8 cards of corridors, 2 rooms with only weak enemies in and all 1's so far have been events which resulted in us finding money or nothing really happening.

we have 3 healers so we need to get a shoeing at some point!!

the game continues...
we open a door, find the dead end you have to dig through.
I've changed it from 30 wounds to 20 wounds plus 10 per level so it has 50 wounds.
each turn spent digging causes events on a 1 or 2.
obviously this brings enemies flocking to us:
2 centaurs, dead in their first turn
12 hobgoblins, little damage and died over the next 3 turns
3 ogres which were in awkward places, followed next round by another 12 hobgoblins. this fight took a few turns to resolve.
then the elf ranger noticed a secret door to another objective room, as we are hearty and hale (and want money) we decide to investigate.
roll twice on objective room table and pick the lower result: double 5 anyway.
1 skaven gutter runner, 2 plague censer bearers, 3 poison wind globadiers, 3 minotaurs and 4 chaos warriors show up.

some damage is caused but we kill them handily and find some treasure.

including a sword of stone which my barbarian gains, then swaps for the sword of resilience the elf ranger is using. this makes the barbarian toughness 6 for this adventure plus his 4 armour points meaning any 1D6 damage enemies are not hurting me.
the elf ranger now has T5 plus his scale armour. add the runesmith with his total T+A of 7 and we're mostly tough.
except the priestess of Shallya who has T3 and cannot wear armour!

we then found a T junction and went left, a corridor. the runesmith has a dark secret: secret map! the corridor ends in a secret door (another one?!) revealing an extra objective room. we head in and are pounced upon by monsters: 6 pink horrors and 11 savage orcs with a savage orc [sign in to see URL] guys are all at the back of the room while we are surrounded by horrors.

as the pinks will split into blues we know getting to that shaman will be a pain so chances are he will get a turn or 3 to cast spells at [sign in to see URL]!

the last extra objective room we found was supposed to have a trap in which I forgot so I added it in here instead.

cannot remember what it was [sign in to see URL]'t have done much!

we rolled a 1 in the first power phase and 12 hobgoblins showed up, our best warrior failed their fear roll on the horrors and this fight took a long time as a result.

oddly our warrior priestess managed to successfully call down blessings whenever a 6 was required but as soon as a 4+ was required she failed every turn. weird!

we cut a pathway out, it took sometime. the priestess has T4 total so got dropped frequently, the barbarian was unable to be harmed by anything in the room and had set up in a position to be surrounded and thus pinned 8 monsters who could do nothing. downside was he couldn't get out and kept having poor attack rolls (bloody WS of 3!)

we cut a way out eventually, the shaman and some orcs were killed by 4 firebombs the dwarf had (hope nothing worse shows up later)
the ceiling started raining stalactites on us (I have a D100 events table but we've had this one about 4 times!), some fungus spores were set off which sent the priestess to sleep and gave the dwarf -1 to hit for the entire fight.
then 2 centaurs showed up, this was a serious problem as these guys could actually hit! (dwarf runesmith has total toughness and armour of 8, elf ranger has 7 too and the barbarian has 11 so most 1 dice damage monsters are not doing much)
we did kill them quickly in the end.
then the rooms floor started going all shaky and uneven, halving warriors movement...
we slowly left the room, almost out when 3 ogres appeared.
we slaughtered them in 2 turns and then a chaos dwarf sorcerer showed up with 12 hobgoblin guards and 3 bull centaurs.

as we were almost out they appeared at the far end of the room, sorcerer and guards, the bull centaurs on us.
we killed two in the first turn and started making our way out, the hobgoblins surged into us and the session ended.

two of us outside of the room, two of us in the room but adjacent to the door. surrounded by hobgoblins and a bull centaur with a chaos dwarf sorcerer at the back throwing spells at us.
not [sign in to see URL] at least he didn't have blunderbuss equipped guards!
