Encounter - keeping the key
Hi Guys,
So - we drew the portcullis card and then the cave in card. We have the portcullis key but from a previous adventure.
So, are we allowed to carry the key over?
If not, is there anyway we can get out of this situation?
Thanks,
Rob.

Re: Encounter - keeping the key
This is a tricky one. I would probably allow the key from the previous Adventure to be used.
Also, if that is not allowed, I might allow them to search for secret doors since this board section has essentially become a dead end! If they find one, they now have a way to escape, although this technically goes against the Cave-in event’s instructions concerning all other ways out of the room being blocked.

There are no rules that say you cannot use the portcullis key from a previous Adventure on the portcullis in the current Adventure.
An argument could be made that the key is discarded after its first use. Therefore, if you have not yet used the key to open a portcullis, then this must be the one the Dying Dwarf was talking about!
