Fighting through doorways?

I have always let players fight diagonally through a doorway but someone has just mentioned that this cannot be done.

So that is the question to the all of you out there! If you are in the corner of a room and a beast is on a square diagonally next to you but through a doorway, can you hit it?

Thanks,

Well I always have let monsters fight through a doorway like that but generally there is only two hand to hand type fighters in any game Ive played so it hasn't really come up.

Although I would have erred on the safe side and thought you couldnt until you implyed we could during the game.

We have always allowed that. What we don't allow is fighting diagonally through 2 fixed objects, such as 2 posts or something.

I would think the rule is similar to movement. As long as one of the two other squares adjacent to both is empty, you can move/fight between the two diagonal squares. If both are occupied/impassable (PC, monster, wall, object, etc) then there is no movement/fighting between those diagonals.

Yeah, that's a pretty good rule.

I always treat the squares on either side of the doorway as adjacent. Otherwise bottlenecks take even longer to resolve than normal.

You just have to imagine your warriors leaping through to attack and then stepping back to their square for cover...
