My family runs an standard elf, dwarf, barb, wiz comb. and The elf got the loren bow at lvl 4, and just before that he pulled out of the treasure card the +1 shooting bracelet. He is turning out to be the best elf we played. - So y he wouldnt have hit anything if it warnt for the bracelets lol
So y, he is the king of dodgeing traps

Re: Ini- tests
To me the elf is probably the weakest character. him being good at dodging traps is essential for him even bein in the game at all

Re: Ini- tests
Concerning the Elf finally succeeding at something...
I find it interesting the different ways people judge the different types of Warriors.
The Elf, in my experience anyway, is one of the most versatile fighters (a big plus) and at level two, with 2 Attacks and Weapon Skill of 5, I think he often does better than the Barbarian in hand-to-hand combat.
Even though his special equipment is expensive (found at the Elf Quarter), I think a fully-equipped Elf can be much more formidable an opponent than most of us think.
Obviously, starting out, he is generally an easy taret.
But, back to the original subject of Initiative Tests... With about 17% chance of failing any Initiative Test (because of the Rule of 1 and 6, 1 always fails), I feel that the Elf is very appropriately given such a high Initiative. It also fits well with the Dodge skill and auto-escape pinning that he has starting out -- meaning I think this is very consistent for this character.
Let the Elf be good at dodging traps which have been sprung and the Dwarf be good at disarming them (perhaps) and the Barbarian just be good at soaking up the damage because he is just not so good at moving quickly (or maybe not so quick-witted either). :)
