Re: warhammer quest troll slayer

Be very interest to know what conclusions were reached for this. I've played Quest with three main groups over the years, and no one seems to agree how the Trollslayer's gold/experience tallies work. These are the ways I've seen it handled:

1) Both tallies increase as you kill monsters. Once the gold tally reaches its max, then only the experience tally increases. In settlements/traveling/events, the Gold tally is slowly used up. When training the XP tally is used.

2) The XP tally is increased when killing monsters, and reduced when training. The Gold tally is increased when selling treasure, and used up in events/buying items in settlements.

3) The XP tally is increased when killing monsters AND WHEN FINDING TREASURE THE TROLLSLAYER CAN'T USE, and it is used when training. The Gold tally only does up when specifically finding gold, and is then used when buying things/in events.

Option 1 feels like double accounting, you gain the benefit twice. However, its seems to be the approach that leads to the least gimped Trollslayers that I have seen.

Option 2 makes the Trollslayer level up slower than the other warriors, as they can often sell 1000gp worth of treasure each dungeon to help towards the next training level. It also makes the Trollslayer unnecessarily wealthy - sell a piece of objective room treasure that you can't use, and you have more gold than you can possibly use (or perhaps even carry).

Option 3 makes the Trollslayer level up at a similar rate to the other warriors, but also makes them so impoverished that they sometimes can't even afford the donation to enter the Slayer's guild in order to train!

If anyone can advise how they play this (or if there is an "official" answer), that would be great!

Thanks

i have always played it the same way.

add gold from all sources to gold.

once maximum reached add all gold from all sources to XP

Gold gold is spent on stuff in town with traders, dwarf quarter, events, alehouse etc.

XP is only spent on training.

honestly after level 3 there's basically no difference and don't forget you cannot ever lose the XP gold so it's purely advantageous. (possibly slayer shrine? been a while)

the major problem i have encountered is when your carried gold is the maximum (4000 i think?) because that means you need 6000 gold to level up.

arguably not being able to lend gold to other warriors too, which we tend to do to get levels up if someone is lagging, the slayer cannot lend but can borrow (throws it in a bush but then levels up. really if you were roleplaying this you wouldn't borrow)

the 1000 gold is the best early on, but then a poor event can easily make you unable to purchase a rune at the dwarf quarter which is mostly all the slayer does with money anyway

most of my posts may run into essay length. I find that for a lot of queries/feedback context is important and that is why this happens more often than not.

have a great day :D

Oh, already posted on lm's site, but there appears to be more discussion about it here:

I think they're all wrong.

He gains gold AND xp for killing Monsters AND for liberating treasure he can't use. (Note: This means he can never trade, sell or give treasure cards to other Warriors - so you should always plan carefully how you distribute treasure with a TS in the party).

Yes, this may seem like double accounting, particaurly at lower levels, were he will potentially be bale to spend 2k on runes and axes as well as level up, while other Warriors will have to choose one or the other.

However, like you point out, there is chance he will lose all his gold and end up being able to do very little in the settlement.

In my experience Trollslayers do progress faster than other Warriors, thanks to the experience rules. However, if played strictly (i.e. They must attack the largest monster each turn) they usually end up getting themselves and the party into trouble by negating any tactics or formation, resulting in them dying quicker.

BTW, I really dislike the TS as a Warrior. I find him selfish and boring:

1) He cannot purchase healing items to help other Warriors (but can buy stonebread that basically only he can use).

2) He can't use any tactics, he has to attack the largest Monster.
a) This means there is no thought process, it's the same as using a Monster.
b) It puts the rest of the part in danger.

3) He destroys treasure that could potentially be awesome for other Warriors.
