Weapon rules?

Hi all

The sword of vengeance says This sword ignores the Monster's Toughness and all except magical armour when determining damage. In addition, the wielder can re-roll one miss per turn.

So that’s pretty straight forward, however the gromril blade says This axe ignores all except magical armour and does double damage on a successful hit. However, the axe is partially sentient and refuses to be drawn by a Warrior of Battle-level 2 or below.

So does this ignore toughness as well as armour but not magical armour like the sov ?

Hammer of sigmar says The Hammer of Sigmar ignores all except magic armour when rolling for damage. In addition, if the to hit score for the attack is a natural 6 it causes 4 x normal damage.

So again does this ignore toughness and armour like the sov but not magical armour?

I would think they do ignore toughness as it says all except magical armour, but just wanted to get your thoughts please ?

SoV is worth 1000g
Gromril blade 1200g
Hammer of sigmar 2000g

SoV - strong point - = reroll a miss
Gromril - strong point = double dam
Hammer of sig - strong point = quad dam on 6

Thanks for any replies.

Gromril Blade does not ignore Toughness. (it's already the best weapon in the game IMO). Unless specifically stated all normal modifiers apply. Many items and spells ignore armour, but not Toughness.

HoS, same.

all of those weapons only do what they say.

only the sword of vengeance ignores Toughness out of that selection.

sword of vengeance is typically the most powerful after level 9 because greater daemons and dragons and other large monsters have monstrous Toughness+armour+ignore pain levels.

hammer of sigmar is good, but requires a 6.
gromril blade is second best in my opinion because consistent double damage is great. and in the hands of a dwarf it gets better due to reliable runes making the damage higher.

if you can find a rune of death (+2D6 damage on a 6 to hit) gromril blade pulls ahead in my opinion

as an aside: for ease i keep armour points separate to Toughness points on the character sheet.

it can be difficult to remember whether rings, amulets, crowns etc are included in your T otherwise, on top of armour, helms and shields.

so i have T expressed as characters T score followed by +X (where X is the bonuses from all T boosters which are NOT armour.

then i have Armour in which i put all of those points in, just add them up when taking damage.

this also helps when assassinate ability shows up on monsters or when plague effects occur, which permanently reduces T.

bear in mind if T is reduced to zero the character is dead and i always calculate this based upon actual character T not bonuses etc.

Yeh, they tried to simplify things by calling armour +x Toughness, it works fine for the basic game but doesn't translate well in the advanced game. The same as weapons that give +X str.
