Gigantic Spider Question
I can't believe that as long as I've been playing, I've *never* encountered or used a Gigantic Spider in a game. Last night was the first time I've ever played against one and I noticed some weird conflicting rules for this beastie.
Profile from the Bestiary:
Gigantic Spider
WS - 3
Strength - Special
Attacks - 2
Damage: - 2D6
Web (1D6)
The Web ability reads:
A Monster with web may attempt to web a Warrior as many times as it has attacks.
If the Monster hits a warrior, that warrior is webbed.
While Webbed, a warrior may be bitten automatically with the rest of the Monster's attacks for 1Dn Wounds per bite (where n is the Monster's Wed entry), with no modifiers for T&A. Monsters may not use their bite attacks if their opponent has not been webbed.
So, here's the question - How much damage does a Gigantic Spider do?
It can't bite if the Warrior isn't webbed.
And it's Web ability indicates it would do 1D6 wounds, unmodified to a webbed warrior. But it's damage attribute is 2D6...
So when does the Gigantic Spider do 2D6 damage?
To further confuse the issue, the only other Webbing creature is a Giant Spider, and the damage attribute for them is just 1! Not even 1D6, just "1".
I thought I knew how spiders attacked, but now I'm confused.
Any ideas?

Re: Gigantic Spider Question
Yesss I was similarly confused the first (and last) time I played one. I would go with 2D6 for damage, personally.

Re: Gigantic Spider Question
I would go with the 1D6, the roleplay book has Giant Spiders as damage 1 but causing Web (1D3) wounds, as the event card with the game says, while Gigantic spiders have 2D6 damage but with Web (1D6) as a special rule.
The damage values may have been included if you wanted to make the spiders a bit harder and let them attack without having to web people

Re: Gigantic Spider Question
Initially I was thinking that 2D6 damage was too much. However, when you consider the inherent handicap of the Spider attack - That a Spider must always spend an attack webbing, or hit and then wait for the Warrior to NOT break free of the web then it seems more reasonable.
It ended up not mattering either way in my scenario last night as we smashed the spiders head in before it could take a swing.

Re: Gigantic Spider Question
As I have always understood it, the damage dice of 2D6 is the potential damage for the two automatice bites (added together) the Gigantic Spider gets IF the warrior it is attacking had already been webbed in a previous turn. I think this may have been a slip on the writers/editors' part (or maybe overconfidence in the Gigantic Spider's abilities), because 1D6 with no mod for T and armour is quite powerful when you consider a potential of two bites from only one of the monsters auto-hitting an already webbed warrior in one turn (1D6+1D6 = up to a maximum of 12 wounds with no T or armour deductions).
As far as the Gigantic Spider's handicaps... when compared to the Giant Spider it is quite a bit tougher and potentially much more dangerous, except for the fact that the Gigantic ones are not as numerous. Spidery creatures however generally do not fair well defensively versus axes, swords, powerful magic and etc....

Re: Gigantic Spider Question
hi there, this is my version of the gigantic spider:
The Spider can attempt to ensnare her prey in a web. Each turn the Spider may attempt
to web a Warrior as many times as It has Attacks. If the Spider hits your Warrior he has
been caught in Its web - place a Webbed counter next to the Warrior. While webbed a
Warrior may not do anything. While webbed, a Warrior may be bitten automatically
with the rest of the Monster's Attacks (no to hit roll Is needed) for 1 D6 Wounds
per bite, with no modifiers for Toughness or armour. A Spider may use its bite Attack(s)
if its opponent has not been webbed at +2. The other Monsters that may also be
involved in the combat get +2 to their to hit rolls against a webbed Warrior.
At the start of each Warriors' Phase, roll 1D6 for each Warrior that has been webbed
and add his Strength. If the total Is 7 or more, he pulls himself free from the sticky
strands and may act normally this turn.

Hello!
I think you and I play it exactly the same, but we just worded it differently.
I actually think of the Gigantic Spiders as rather wimpy most of the time since they have so little defense against the Warriors and no ambush ability. In most of my games they usually only present a serious threat when other monsters are present to distract the Warriors.
Now, if someone were to bring them into a level 1 adventure, the Warriors could really be in trouble.
