The Lantern
Gents,
I have a question, do you need a free hand to hold the lantern?
The reason I ask is because of the wardancer using both swords to get his skill and it says you can't carry the lantern.
Also what about the knight who has the broadsword and shield. CAn he become a leader withour giving up his shield???

Re: The Lantern
Let's face it: eventually the Barbarian will want a shield too... So I always play that anyone can lead the party, it's just assumed that they gently set down the lantern and prepare for battle when it's time. Of course, certain events call for the lantern to be dropped/stolen, in which case the lantern is kicked over and goes out in the heat of battle.
Of course, you can try to play a bit more realistically, but then you really have to start paying attention to just how many suits of armor Warriors are carrying, etc. (I sort of do this anyway)

Re: The Lantern
Yo, I'm just bumping that very old thread on the base of what I read in the Wardancer rules pack :
If the Wardancer is carrying something that stops him from using both swords, for example
the lantern, then this rule does not apply. Also, if he uses any weapons other than the twinswords, he obviously cannot use this ability.
This really suggests a hand must be free to carry the lantern ...

Hello, Dwimm, and welcome!
I agree with your logic and your interpretation of the rules on this point. However, I play by house rules that are much less strict on this issue.
I think that the rule you quote is also the reason a Wardancer is seldom if ever the leader in Warhammer Quest. I personally would not want my Wardancer to be the leader if he could not also use his twin blades.

Re: The Lantern
wow thread necromancy from 11 years ago!
it is odd and just seems like they did not want the wardancer to be leader?
on that note though who can use a lantern?
bows require two hands, two handed swords, hand weapon and shield, crossbow requires two hands.
even the wizard is depicted as using a sword and a staff at the same time...
the noble! pistol is one handed and has a rapier, maybe a sabre later on. but I think the hunting rifle requires two hands and reloading would likely need two hands too.
maybe they should just invest in a magical floating lantern that obeys their spoken commands?!
--- most of my posts may run into essay length. I find that for a lot of queries/feedback context is important and that is why this happens more often than not.
have a great day :D

Re: The Lantern
I do not know whether they thought that out very thoroughly, though I would assume they did... Perhaps they actually wanted the Warriors to be limited to only using one-handed weapons for the entire Adventure when it was their turn to be the leader.
Think of it this way, it might tend to encourage players to try out different combinations of equipment and weaponry for their Warriors.
In another way, it might discourage players from becoming too eager to be the leader. Also, the limitations of the Lantern might actually help the leader to make more thoughtful choices as to which Warrior should receive which treasure!

I have always appreciated the Dwarven solution to the matter.
