The Halfling Debate
It has been suggested that he/she gets for starting wounds, a dodge roll, a higher WS etc.
Admittedly it isn't a strong character but I find them really fun to play, even the one I have with 5 HP, and they do have a chance to bounce back from death 50% of the time with their lunch box.
What are your views?

Re: The Halfling Debate
I think the Halfling is fine just the way he is. He's a fighter primarily, but has useful skills. I think so long as he's played with that in mind it should be fine. Though 5 Wounds is a bit poor. But then that's the risk of 2D6 Wounds- the Witch Hunter is the same I believe.
And yep, the lunchbox is the ultimate tool, you just have to remember to use it! Same with his Treasure and Scouting skills.

Re: The Halfling Debate
The treasure skill is how the halfling really shines he should be able to level up sooner, buy more equipment or just have more nifty items than anyone else.
Although at level one he may be slightly disadvantaged he will soon be a match for the other warriors.
Add in his other skills and items and youve got a fantastic warrior. Although it is handy to have to have someone big whos handy with sword to hide behind.
Actually Ive convinced myself to create another now.

Re: The Halfling Debate
Blast, you beat me too it! I was thinking of that too. A halfling warrior has a lot of potential with improved dodge and WS and perhaps a few nifty abilities.
I don't feel that the thief is too underpowered since that lunch box is such a mighty item. Hit points can be a bit unfortunate but rerolling any '1's can help.
I'm actually quite fond of them being vulnerable because it allows a lot of fun roleplaying and interaction with the other characters.

Re: The Halfling Debate
The halfling has enough access to avoid damage skills after level 1. I think anyone who wants to increase his abilities doesnt really have the halfling mentality. :P
My lvl3 halfling has Dodge (6+ to avoid damage), Evade (5+ to avoid damage) and Roll with the Blow (reduce damage by 1D6 + BL)
Getting several training rolls each level really helps you to get some nice skills although your profile does suffer a bit.

Re: The Halfling Debate
I'm using my first halfling Chubby Pockets, he started with 9 wounds so he's pretty strong, then due to his ability to ge extra treasure he found a CloakofWarding, 1 armour but doesn't counts as armour, and then found a Sword of Defiance, +3 toughness!, so an armour/toughness value of 6 !
I just got him to level 2 but the leveling was awful, i only gained 2 wounds and no statistic increases, got the Who'sisthis, golddigger and move silently skills (i'm not even sure how to use the latter!).
Still i think its a pretty good support character i'm sure his next levelup will go better.

Re: The Halfling Debate
I just noticed that someone mentioned re-rolling 1's above. Halfling Thieves roll 2d6 for Wounds at character creation, but DON'T get to re-roll ones, unlike the Witch Hunter!
That said, the character class is a fun one. Anyone who has played the Munchkin card game might notice that the Halfling class was modeled after this one it seems.

Re: The Halfling Debate
Never noticed that about the ones, personnally i'd still make or allow others to make rerolls on 1's, its probably a typo anyway.
