Best model for the Barbarian?

Hi all,

I'm starting a new Warhammer Quest campaign in a couple of months with some friends, and I'm planning to use the barbarian.

I was trying to find a really awesome model to use, thinking of a Conan-esque theme.

Currently the front runners are 'Zuun-Akos' and 'Wolf', both by HassleFree miniatures (see links below), but I'm very open to other suggestions.

What good ones have people found?

Can anyone say, "Thrud?"
He must be the penultimate Barbarian toy soldier for WhQ along the Conan-esque vein.
GW made at least five toy soldiers of him over the years.
Granted, Heresy did get permission to do a few others, but I like the GW ones better.

TRK, I do not know if you are going to like my advice at all.
For this GW game, I do not use any non-GW toy soldiers unless I cannot find one in the GW collections.
e.g. a female Witch Hunter for my wife - ended up with one of the von Konigsmark sisters from Raging Heroes.

For me and my Barbarian, I started with the toy soldier from the core set.
When I got to Hero, with all of the armour and furs my adventurer, Knute Haakonsen, had picked up, I switched to the "Sir Roland" toy soldier that I had found in GW's "Heroes of Dungeonquest" box set.
I believe he is in another box set with some other "knights", but I do not remember the name.

The old blue catalogue for GW/Citadel that covers 1986-1991 has a large number of toy soldiers that can be used for the Barbarian Warrior in either the Empire or Chaos sections - even both.
If you cannot find that catalogue, but can find the red "Section Two" one, the pages are the same.

<<Sshhhoooott. Started to look in all of my pre-'95 catalogues and lost an half of an hour! Time travel at its normal!>>

I just dusted off an old 9x13 envelope that has my old mid-to-late '80s catalogue in it - the one that was distributed as an A4 pad that was supposed to go into an old fashioned two-ring binder - a portrait, not landscape, one.
Many of the figures in the "Fighters" section could fit the bill of WhQ Barbarian quite well.
Man, that was back when Brian Ansell was still doing some of the sculpting.
Bob Naismith too.
Back when the Perrys were definitely the new young kids "on the block".
My wife's female Barbarians are from back when.

Anyway TRK, go to either SOL's or CCM's WEB pages, and they show plenty of the old GW toy soldiers that work very well for WhQ.
They even have some of the old catalogues scanned in.
You should be able to find these figures without too much trouble on eBay or at local game groups if you do not live in too small of a town.

Do check out the Reaper miniatures, bones, range.

They sell their regular sculpts of "lesser" quality.
And VERY cheap.

It's silly compared to many models out there.

My friend got a badass necromancer model with a scythe for another game there. I can say that one had great quality, so the models are well worth the cost.

Biggest negative mark for reaper is that many of their sculpts are a bit eh.
But there are gems in there for sure.

Think positive, it will soon get worse.

Even if one plays with different colored rocks from the empty lot behind one's shack, as long as you are playing the game we all love here, have a great time!
